The Dirge(as of late 2015) is my favorite CCB offering in while.
(Skip this)
This stems from last year when a couple of my friends came down to Tampa from Connecticut and were feverishly haunted by the mystical Hunahpu stout. ..and I had never had it at that point either (being a recent transplant and all) so upon their arrival we spent (wasted) two days and 200$ (much to our girlfriends chagrin) on one bottle(14') of Hunahpu stout and one bottle of Marshal Zhukov (13')... needless to say, I thought the Zhukov was incredible after 2 years of aging. It was was mellow and buttery... much like an aged RIS should be. I could go on for days about the nuances of flavor, but to be honest I have long since forgotten the accurate words...all I can say was that it was perfect and I am glad I was able to appreciate the elixir. The Hunahpu however, was very good but was not as good in that moment soooo sorry so sad.

The Dirge is basically a double Maduro. Which, if you've had the maduro, is beyond a great expectation. Its double the abv and double the flavor while still holding on to its heavy flavor profile. It doesnt cater the masses and it does not cater the IPA crowd. It is the Double Maduro. I sincerely hope that CCB decides to hold on to this recipe.
If you like the CCB Maduro, then you will buy this ad nauseam. Take every descriptive quality of their original core brown ale (Maduro) and double it. But, don't just double it in name only (Doubleduro, DuroDopple, DoppleRadarthe2nd? ) double the ABV, double the flavor profile, double the richness, double the coffee or should say... double the fun?
This IS the double Maduro and it is quite spectacularly unnoticed by the masses. Double Mint Gum. I love this beer. I don't know how I feel about CCB but, Maduro has always been my favorite brown ale. Period.

On-tap at the brewery in Tampa. The aroma is sweet malt, and hints of coffee and caramel. The taste is very malty sweet with caramel. Another solid brew from Cigar City.

Dark red, creamy tan head.
Sweet malt and dark fruity aroma, less roasty than expected.
On the tongue is a sharp tang of cola, and it tastes like it too, with some light coffee and toffee. This is more thin, crisp and fizzy than I would expect.
CCB is so good at brown ales, I figured a "double brown porter" would be out of this world. That goes to show you how influential the marketing can be.
