Notes: An insidious beast that Seasonal Sneak. A few days here. A week there. Before you kno it you are hanging a Christmas stocking on your Jack o' Latern and hiding painted eggs in the pumpkin pie. But there is no use fighting. Be still and let the cold claw of Seasonal Sneak seize your palate with the tumult of chocolate, pumpkin, and spice flavors.

This one is pretty stinky. Earthy and cabbage. Maybe chunks of pumpkin. Taste is pretty subdued. Which is good given the aroma. A miss. Won't come back to this one.

I've been a Cigar city supporter since the beginning and love their beer. However, I have to say that this is one of the worst beers that I've had in quite some time. Pours like water and smells like old cardboard. Not getting any pumpkin or chocolate. Has a musty old paper taste. Did anybody taste this stuff before release? Drain pour!

There's a note in here of something between garbage and cabbage. I don't think that's considered a holiday flavor. Last year's seasonal creep was solid and I was expecting similar here. Its not even close. This one got worse with every sip. I never drain pour.... except this.

MPoured at 44°F from a 22oz bottle (bottled on 14Jun16) into a pint glass. Consumed on 30Jul16.
SMELL: Very strong aromas of lettuce and soil are backed by... Who cares? When you have massive waves of lettuce and dirt assaulting your nose, does it really matter what else can be smelt?
TASTE: Very strong flavors of lettuce and soil instantly disrespect my taste buds. Subtle flavors of pumpkin and sweet chocolate seen to offer hope, but all hope vanishes as soil and lettuce flavors grow heinously stronger. This saddening display finally closes out as mild nutmeg and subtle cinnamon flavors join while all other flavors push on.
NOTE: I thought I had the worst of the worst when I tried Dos Equis Radler. Until last week, I did not think anything could be more horrendous then that. This was beyond difficult to review. I only managed to take the most minute of sips from this as each one brought me complete revolt. I do not know why Cigar City would allow this to leave the brewery. Take a lesson from Jester King, CCB; sometimes you gotta drain pour your beer. Take the loss to your finances instead of the loss to your reputation.

Reviewed from (very) long-standing notes. Poured from the 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass. Consumed on 10/10/16; purchased 7/8/16.

A: Dark brown, hazy but quite translucent. Forms a dense but thin off-white head and has low levels of visible carbonation.

S: Pumpkin pie spice, brown malts and cardboard, and some vegetal pumpkin. Rich but not overly sweet. Hints of chocolate and caramel, vanilla and cola.

T: Pumpkin and pie spices - nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. Chocolate, toasted malts, and a weird tinny flavor. More cardboard and vegetation. A lingering thin and objectionable spicy metallic flavor.

M: A thin body that's borderline over-carbonated. Low alcohol presence.

O: Really not a good beer. I’m not always a fan of pumpkin beers in general, but I've come to appreciate some of the better ones. But this one is way, way not one of those. I don't know if there was something wrong with this particular batch or this particular bottle. But base on this, I’m disappointed that CCB even released this beer, let alone bottled and distributed it. Really…you need to avoid this one.

Enjoyed on-tap at the brewery in Tampa. Seasonal sneak is a chocolate pumpkin ale with spices weighing in at 7% ABV. Not my favorite beer, something about it seems a little off but it's not terrible. I would have liked more a little more pumpkin.

22 oz bottle poured into a pub style pint glass.

Deep reddish-copper with 1 finger khaki head. Good clarity with moderate carbonation.

Cocoa, brown sugar, caramel, allspice, and smushed lightening bugs (yes, you heard that right.)

Caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, and slight butterscotch. Hints of pumpkin rind with emphasis on the stem and leaves. Very green vegetal taste. Hints of allspice and nutmeg.

Medium-plus bodied, oily, and semi-dry with a slight bitterness.

Earthy, rindy pumpkin backed by a nice big Brown Ale.

Cigar City Seasonal Sneak
22oz bottle into a snifter
Vintage 2016

A: Pours a dark mahogany, small tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves only a few small patches of lacing. 3.75

S: Aroma is nice. Pumpkin and chocolate for sure on the nose, more chocolate. There is a spice that I can’t put my finger on. 3.75

T: Like the taste there’s lots of chocolate, however not much pumpkin. A fair amount of spice and subtle bitterness. Not overly complex, but solid and tasty. 3.75

M/D: Medium body, not sure what the ABV is but if its high I can’t tell, carbonation moderate, drinkability is good. 4

O: Overall, a good beer but nothing crazy. Certainly worth a try though. After I drank this I looked at the reviews and see that its getting crushed on here. Not sure why, granted there are definitely better pumpkin beers but I thought this was quite good. 3.75

Bottled on 06/13/16. I love the label and it's play on the "seasons" and accompanying story.

Poured a lovely amber to reddish brown with a thin 1/2 finger's worth of a khaki tan head. Tiny islands of lacing left in the glass.

Aromas..I'm not getting the typical pumpkin pie spices right away. Picking up on a coffee aroma, like a cup from the morning that has been sitting on your desk and is now cold and slightly stale. Getting some bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, and nutmeg as it warms up.

Taste? Interesting. It's definitely got chocolate and pumpkin flavors to it. Unfortunately I am picking up on a wet cardboard taste to it, but just a little. Getting cinnamon, vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate and an almost orange like taste as well.

Mouth feel starts out full, but finishes thin and watered down. The spices linger, but it's a little odd.

Overall, I was really looking forward to this beer when I heard about it, but it is just a little bit of a let down. It's not a drain pour as I have read in other reviews, at least not for me, but it is just a little on the odd side. Chocolate and pumpkin, how can that be a bad thing right? Well this one needs just a little bit more work with the flavor profile. Was hoping for a little bit more than this provided.

Sadly, I'm going to have to side with the majority here. I am in south Florida on vacation, so I wanted to find something brewed in the region to enjoy. I was at Total Wine without my phone, thus access to BA, so I went ahead and took a flyer. Sometimes it's really hard to tell when you're drinking a "bad" beer or just an "odd" beer that missed the mark for you, personally. But, after it's all said and done you still are left respecting the effort. There was no such quandary here.
