They’re here! Happy dance! Though my lazy-ass postal worker evidently didn’t want to get out of his truck, so jammed the box in so tightly I had to hear it apart to get the beer out. But none was damaged, so all’s well that ends well. 12 oz. can. So much excitement in the air.

Blacker than the heart of the coldest apparatchik, with large islands of wafer thin bubbles. The nose is Zhukov’s (chocolate + sweets) with the scantest whiff of the coconut. Is there a Marshal Zhukov’s mouthwash? I’d buy that.

Marshal Zhukov’s – Coconut is замечательно. But isn’t everything that Zhukov’s touches? Short of going full fruit basket or brewing it with water from Flint, MI, I’m not sure what could ruin this magnificent base beer. The coconut isn’t as strong as Jerry’s Brewing Whole Coconut Oil Stout Aged in Coconut Barrels, but there’s plenty. Beneath is warm chocolate & heavy, sweet malts, but only an echo of the roast from normal Zhukov’s. More molasses than the original, less bite on the end. If possible, creamier on the finish, & so easy to slug. Session Marshal Zhukov’s. That’s the dream.

One of the few variants that doesn’t live up to my ridiculously high expectations of everything with “Zhukov’s” stenciled on it. It says something that it’s still an excellent beer.

Right off the bat: this is a Marshal Zhukov variant, and all expectations should be based on that.

Oily, inky, dark black brew with very good head retention.

The nose implies mostly toast, coffee, and dark chocolate.

The palate, however: simply sublime. Typical Zhukov flavors of dark espresso roast, banana, nuts, char, toast, and toffee are complemented by toasted coconut and cherry tones. Exceptionally smooth presentation of the flavor profile.

Super thick and smooth on the palate, to boot. Marshal Zhukov is one of the thickest, creamiest stouts available, and this variant is no exception.

12oz can (yes!) poured into a snifter. Canning date of 05/11/18 printed on bottom of can. This is the first release of this variant produced for the 8th edition of the El Catador club. Faint coconut on the nose and palate. Not a whole lot of coconut which I was hoping for because I do enjoy coconut heavy Imperial stouts. This is a very fresh can so the beer is definitely packing a lot of heat from the high ABV right now. I imagine the beer will benefit from some aging.

Overall, a solid beer for sure but do not go into this one thinking it is a coconut bomb.

12 oz. can. Black, but not as black as Zhukov normally is. Smells of coconut, molasses, and boozy chocolate. Tastes of fudge, roasted malt in the form of coffee, and coconut throughout. Back end is the usual abrasive Zhukov malt flavor that hints at soy sauce, but slightly tempered by sugar and coconut here. Heavy and sticky. It's good, but I would definitely struggle through a full can of this.

Stark obsidian black with a somewhat audible but thin mocha head that quickly recedes to a thin chain ring.

Some have mentioned that they don't get the coconut, I posit that they must not have had much regular MZ over the years. For me, this immediately brings me to a toasted yet waxy coconut place that the base never did, also with more peanutty-ness than I'm used to, softening the slightly more potent notes of molasses, leather, and roasted coffee I usually get from MZ.

The story is the same in taste, as the coconut here is sort of floral, sort of toasty and again waxy, yet mild with a very measured touch. It lightens the base a bit, putting behind it the base flavors and enhancing dark chocolate and accents of red licorice. There are still notes of roasted nuts, coffee and molasses, but not as powerfully so. It's all well balanced, and a little less bitter than regular MZ, finishing with a chocolate wafer exhale.

Not any different than its base, Coconut MZ blankets the tongue with its smooth and luscious liquid, and finishes with a semi-dry, slight tingly heat. ...after a few months, the finish is starting to become more powdery dry, and almost chalky.

Should I be ashamed to admit that I think this may be an improvement over an already nearly perfect beer? It's a very slight change overall, but I enjoy it thoroughly. I'd still take regular Marshal Zhukov over just about any other stout any day of the week.

Excellent. The coconut is subtle but still there. The best iteration of Zhukov in my opinion.

12oz Can which was filled on 2/11/2018 - thank you Mel

Look: pours jet black with a thick 1/2" medium brown head with low retention. the beer is fully opaque and no lacing whatsoever was observed.

Smell: deeply roasted malts, fruity esters, some spicyness, and chocolatey sweetness plus dark fruits (raisins and figs).

Taste: Intense in every sense! Deep complex dark malts suggest chocolate, cocoa and very dark unsweetened coffee. There's heavy bitterness as well and just a hint of coconut sweetness.

Feel: full bodied with sticky, creamy texture. astringency is pronounced and carbonation moderate.

Overall; The finish is long, dry with lasting bitterness and subtle alcohol warmth. This beer could benefit from cellaring until it mellows a bit. Also expected more coconut from a beer billed as a Coconut IRS. Coconut appears to come through a bit more as the beer warms. Still just a bit disappointed.
