Thanks to rudzud

Nice thick creamy dark coloured head fades semi quickly, long legs, pitch black thick beer

Nose big thick dark choc, heavy roast and a little char, heavy dark coffee, coffee syrup, vanilla, little toasted hazelnut, little fluffy nougat and cookie dough notes, candy, vanilla etc, baking choc.

Taste huge thick heavy dark beer, tons of dark chocolate, bakers choc, choc syrup, big cookie dough, biscuity wafer cookie, some vanilla, hint of anise licorice, little toasted hazelnut but not much, bitter roast, plenty of roasted coffee and espresso bitterness, a little chicory like, loads of chocolate lingering, little sticky sweet syrupy coffee, bitter earthy hops.

Mouth is heavier bod decent carb no booze

Great base stout but lack of hazelnuts especially and light vanilla is a bit meh.

Perhaps a 2.0 version of the original, it seems that Cigar City's famous imperial stout has gotten an upgrade! Marshal Zhukov shares its roasty, malty, complex glory with soothing hazelnut and vanilla spice for a premiere dessert-like experience.

Inky and tar-like, the highly viscous beer pours with an onyx-like sheen. Its creamy and mocha-stained froth billows over with deep espresso, dark chocolate, hints of dark fruit, spice and the succulent aura of hazelnut and vanilla. Burnt sugars roll on the the front of the tongue with the creamy roast of burnt marshmallows.

Toffee, coffee, molasses, walnut, chocolate, brown sugar and maple saturate the tastebuds with its lavish, silky smooth textures and tastes. Robust and intense, the bitterness of hops tucks nicely behind the roast and disguises as cocoa or coffee-like bite. Currant, blackberry and cherry leads to a spicy alcohol flavor, highlighted by fennel and licorice spice. Still, the soft and elegant taste of vanilla and hazelnuts take center stage.

Recklessly rich, full and decadent, the beer's cake batter texture is softened by simmering boozy spice. Warm with kaluha, creme de cocao and coffee liquor, the finish is bittersweet and brownie-like. Lingering soft spiciness of those creamy vanilla and nutty hazel flavors accompany a long and roasty finish.

To my taste it's a step down from regular Zhukov, and the flavor additions mask some of the best qualities of the original. I've had the original several times on draft, and as it warms up it cycles through an umami eel sauce type flavor, to chocolate lava cake, toasted marshmallow, malted milk balls, etc. The hazelnut and vanilla are clashing with plain Zhukov's more bitter aspects and they're neutralizing each other to a less flavorful end result. I don't feel that the new flavor additions are bold enough to merit their inclusion, but they are just bold enough to confuse the best parts of regular Zhukov's taste. Since it runs $20 a bomber I would not revisit this. I doubt that anyone would guess vanilla or hazelnut upon a blind tasting.

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark cafe brown body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, thin lacing, light filminess. Smell is quite oxidized, a fair bit of cardboard, milk chocolate, lots of dark fruit, no vanilla nor hazelnut to be noted. Flavour is similar; not much in way of vanilla or hazelnut, and what is there of the base Marshal Zhukov isn't much to write home about. Sadly, there is a lot of dark fruit and cardboard, suggesting oxidation. Not a whole lot of adjunct to it. Mouthfeel is medium-fuller bodied, yet noticeably thinner than the regular Marshal Zhukov. It's really quite flabbergasting how different this is from the usually stellar base beer. I find it difficult to recommend to anyone who's had the base beer and would know how good this could have been.

Pours pitch black with no memorable head. Strong Vanilla scent wafts from the glass. The taste pretty much follows suit. The vanilla intermingles with the roast and produces a slightly sweet blend of what can be described as a vanilla-ish flavor. I did not pick up on any hazelnut however. Great viscosity in the brew, with a thick film that coats the mouth and lingers on the palate. Not too bad of a beer, just would liked to have picked up on the hazelnut.

Bottle poured into chalice glass. Dark, Rich pour with modest head and reasonable carbonation. Chocolate, vanilla, dark malts and hint of hazelnut at nose. Wee heavy on palate with charred vanilla, dark chocolate on front- seems off-balance; almost like licorice. Could not sense the hazelnut which should have softened the taste. Love original Marshal Zhukov - this one is just okay.

22 Oz bottle of Vanilla Hazelnut Marshall Zhukov

Poured into a snifter

A: very small chocolatey head that disappears quickly. Body is a rich black.

S: Chocolate, hazelnut, roasted malts come to the front some licorice and anise last.

T: Harsh booze chocolate and vanilla the flavors don't meld they are stark and can taste them individually and overwhelmingly so.

M: thick viscous feel a touch thinner on the finish

O: Average to below average hazelnut vanilla stout the beer is awkward and boozy. IF you love Marshall Zhukov it's worth a shot but what a miss for me.

Black color with mocha head. Aroma is quite estery with bright apple notes, maybe a hint of white wine and booze. Taste starts slightly tart and fruity, continues with some acidic notes, light earthy notes, overall on the sweeter side with a light bitterness on the finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth feel. Overall it's decent but not as good as the regular version.
