Tan head. Dark brown color.

Peaches and apricots in the nose. Followed by fudge, chocolate, cocoa, and molasses. Strong with a lot of alcohol showing. Lots of rum. Spices, licorice, and dark fruits.

Very solid and enjoyable, but so strong and boozy.

750ml bottle poured into a Cigar City El Catador glass. Pours a pitch black color with light tan creamy head with great retention and lacing around the glass. The nose is very sweet with rum and oak a plenty. The taste is incredibly smooth and creamy with some warmth in the finish from the high ABV and rum barrels. Wow, this is a really solid beer and the rum barrels are a nice change of pace from the typical bourbon barrels you typically see with this type of beer.

I probably liked this one more than I would have if I had drank it fresh. The rum spices compliment the base porter and the edges have faded off of this one. Very enjoyable and easy drinking for a 13+%

750mL bottle acquired through the El Catador Club. Released 12/2016. Served in a Cigar City teku.

Pours black with about two fingers of pale tan head. Retention amounts to a milky layer and full halo that imparts some scattered spots of lace.

Aromas of sweet rum, chocolate, brown sugar, caramel and candied dark fruit. I find myself returning often to enjoy this sweet, welcoming scents.

Tastes of chocolate, sugary rum, cooked caramel, lightly spiced sweetened dark fruit, some roasty malt and an occasional reminder of the 13.5% abv. It's a smooth, sweet blend that is dangerously easy to drink despite the intermittent heat.

Smooth, satiny body with loose carbonation. Clean, sweet finish with notes of milk chocolate rum balls and chicory-candied dark fruit.

More great barrel work from Cigar City. Rum brings out a whole different side of baltic porter than I am used to, making Kalevipoeg at the Gates of Hell one of my favorite examples of the style.
