Notes / Commercial Description:
Is the Space Pope reptilian? That question remains to be answered, but in the meantime, we have his eponymous IPA to consider. Brewed with an astronomical amount of Mosaic, Citra, CTZ and (what else?) Galaxy hops that lend notes of passionfruit and melon to the clean flavors of base malt and a touch of crystal malt for depth of character. When your ecclesiastical jurisdiction encompasses the entire universe, only Cigar City's Space Pope IPA will do!

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/8/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, white grape, gooseberry, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, white grape, gooseberry, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, white grape, gooseberry, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, toasted biscuit, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is an awesome IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not aggressive. Outstanding Mosaic, Citra, Hallertau Blanc, and Galaxy profile. Awesome balanced mix of juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; great bready malt backbone, with mild lingering sweetness and balancing resins. A really enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high white head that quickly died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lots of thick lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of mangos and melons are present in the nose along with hints of pine resin.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of melons with additional notes of underlying caramel malts. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and has nice aromas and flavors of melons.

12 oz can from brewery dated 6/8/18, canned four days before I purchased it. :)

Poured into a tallgrass snifter, a hazy golden orange color with an egg foam white head of 2 fingers. Destroys the glass as it recedes. Niiiiice.

Aroma of mango, grapefruit, papaya, early golden plum, and orange peel.

Nice resiny bitterness to start, followed by sweet succulent tropical and non-tropical fruit. Light pleasant piney resin, oranges, grapefruit, mango, mandarin, bitter rinds, slight alcohol heat, and a finish of juicy orange and hop oils. Malt bill really hangs in there nicely.

Feel is creamy and crisp at the same time, and has a nice resinous finish.

Overall, I liked this beer enough during my tasting to take a six pack home with me. It was the only CC product I took home from the brewery. I was on a budget (or so I thought at that point in my trip), and I chose this over Marshall Zhukov. If there were an imperial Jai Alai, this would be it.

Tons of tropical flavors. Mango, orange peel, papaya, nice malty backbone medium light body smoothe. Very little clean bitterness towards the back end. Such a pleasant beer from cigar city.
