Very Good
Space PopeSpace Pope
Notes: Is the Space Pope reptilian? That question remains to be answered, but in the meantime, we have his eponymous IPA to consider. Brewed with an astronomical amount of Mosaic, Citra, CTZ and (what else?) Galaxy hops that lend notes of passionfruit and melon to the clean flavors of base malt and a touch of crystal malt for depth of character. When your ecclesiastical jurisdiction encompasses the entire universe, only Cigar City's Space Pope IPA will do!

Hazy and golden with a fading off white head, this beer looks decent. Potent citrus and pineapple/ tropical nose to this beer, again nice. Flavor translated from the nose pretty well with the tropical flavors mixing with a slight sticky bitterness. Medium carbonation with a sticky bitter feel and oh so slight heat.

Poured from a 12oz can into a pint glass.

L: Light, creamy orange-golden pale and completely hazy. Thin head that laces the edges.
S: Not particularly powerful but cirtus and soapy? Hop-forward and rich malt sweetness.
T: Orange and tangerine peel and medium bitterness but not overwhelming. Not a ton of sweetness, but is kinda like an orange creamsicle.
F: Medium to heavier bodied and mild carbonation.

Cigar City don't miss.

Glad to finally Poured from a can into a tulip.

Pours lightly hazed medium gold with a good foamy head and enduring lacing.

Vague tropical aromas mix with orange and pine resin.

Caramel malts are very present and forward on the tip of the tongue. Citrus flesh, zest, and pith all arrive in midstream. The brew closes with resin and white pepper. The ABV is well hidden.

The brew is medium bodied. Well carbonated and not crisp, but drying.

A solid IPA. Not Jai Alai, but tasty.

12oz can poured in to a nonic glass.

Look- Hazy golden amber color. Large off-white head that recedes slowly to a thin cap of foam, solid lacing. Moderate carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Big tropical fruit (pineapple, papaya and mango), melon, citrus (orange/tangerine, grapefruit and lemon), peach/nectarine, green grape, bready malt, faint pine and floral/grassy hop notes.

Taste- Similar to the aroma, tropical fruit, citrus, nectarine and melon, a bit of green grape skin, light pine, lingering aggressively bitter finish . Fairly well balanced.

Feel- Medium bodied, dry and crisp. Moderate carbonation on the tongue.

O- A very solid IPA, somewhere between a WC IPA and a NE hazy. Worth checking out.

-amber can pour with a deep haze and a light fruity and floral aroma. The flavor is of tropical fruit with strawberry notes. The brew has low to moderate hop bitterness. The hop profile is well-balanced and tasty. I enjoyed these.

I've had so many IPAs (and it's not even my favorite style) that they all are beginning to taste the same, but this one was definitely unique...

Great hazy look for an IPA with a bright-white, frothy head, and a smell that was all juicy, sweet, and simply enjoyable. Mouthfeel, though carbonated, was not distracting at all, and the smell of sweet juiciness translated perfectly to the taste. Truly a distinct offering from the style - something that sets itself beyond others in the field. Another great job from CC.

Included in a 12 pack variety box I had delivered from my local beer store while under Coronavirus quarantine:

Brewed with Mosaic, Citra, Hallertau Blanc and Galaxy hops.

Hop profile isn't anything special, with Hallertau Blanc taking a backseat to this beer's dominant vague tropical fruit character. It's dry and unrefreshing. Lacks Citra's clean citrus and Mosaic's subtle blueberry flavours, but I guess it somewhat delivers on the desirable traits of Galaxy in that there's some passionfruit flavour.

12 oz can with a 19 January 2020 BB date stamp on the bottom of the can.
Pours with a hazy golden-amber body topped with a decent white head that leaves ample lacing on the glass.
The aroma is somewhat dank despite a mix of citrus juice and citrus peel notes, including both organ and tangerine. The flavor follows, but with less orange and more passionfruit. Moderate bitterness for style but the flavor is, perhaps, a touch stronger than average.
Medium body and carbonation.

12oz can poured into a snifter

A- pours a clear golden color with a one finger foamy white head that has good retention and leaves lacing behind

S- Dank tropical fruit aromas of mango, papaya and melon, herbaceous mosaic notes, tangerine, clean malt

T- loads of tropical fruit notes up front; mango, cantaloupe, pineapple and tangerine, earthy and herbal notes, hint of toasted malt on the finish

M- medium body with moderate carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and crisp finish

O- full flavored tropical hops with great drinkability

Less 24 days old!

Pours an effervescent gold with a pinky of pearl colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Oranges, breadyness,

T: Follows the nose, some lime & grassyness up front. Pomelo, dryness & a little bready sweetness as this warms along with leafy hops. Finishes dry, with a little pomelo & crackery notes

MF: Light/medium body, fairly firm carbonation, decent balance

Not a bad IPA, but not one I would buy again

Poured into a Duchesse de Biurgogne glass. Space pope is extremely hoppy and quite bitter, which is what it says on the bottle, so I can't fault it for that. It does quite a good job at what it's meant to do, however. Carbonation is fairly low in this IPA, and it's not particularly fragrant. But if you're into discerning different shades of hopps in your IPA, it's got plenty to work with. Overall, it's not my type of an IPA as I prefer something as Goose Island Next Coast IPA, but it's a matter of preference. Gotta love the name though.

Canned on 11/06/2019
A: Poured into Teku glass. Golden orange body with a bubble white head that dissipated quickly to a slight white rim of small bubbles on the outer edge.

S: Sharp aroma of citrus: grapefruit rind and orange. Some bitter melon and pine.

T/MF: Getting some bitter grapefruit and citrus up front with a juicy hop pine in the middle. That being said there's a nice dryness to this in the finish that makes drinking this one easy.

O: This is a fairly decent offering from CCB, however this one is a little underwhelming, hop-wise, for an IPA. I would like to have seen a little bit more from the hop bill. I would definitely choose the Jai Alai or Guayabera before this one though. It's not a bad beer, I was just expecting more.

Slight chill haze on gold, thin white head, ok retention, lace ain't so great
Super tropical aroma, pineapple, mango, guava, passionfruit, etc. It's all in there!
Pretty much follows aroma, but could stand to be more crisp and bitter.
Soft mouthfeel, could use a bit more carbonation.
It seems like they're going for something between a WCIPA and NEIPA. I applaud the effort, but don't really like the results.

Quite a nice IPA from a brewery that’s always solid and reliable. No date on can. Pours a slightly darker honeyed golden color with some fluffy white head and spotty lingering lacing. Also some small sticky rings that lasted for a long time. Smells of ripe mango, grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine and lemon. Also some malt, nuts, bread, caramel, vanilla and light piney notes. Taste follows the nose, good balance between the more bitter hit of hoppiness and the sweeter malt backbone. Smooth, mildly sticky, gently coated the palate, good carbonation. A very enjoyable beer.

Picked-up three cans as part of a mixed twelve-pack at Kappy's in Norwell for about eighteen dollars. My third brew reviewed from these guys. Pretty solid, would put even with JA, liked CPA better.

Can 2 months old gotten via their variety 12 pack. Lots of citrus on the nose, hoppy, piney, some bread crust. Taste follows the aroma closely. Chewy mouthfeel. Don't understand how they can produce such an underwhelming IPA and put it in the same 12 pack as Jai Alai. I would not buy this beer as a single or if I saw it in a six pack.

Pours a clear amber with fine, soft foam.

Smell is piney with notes of resin, grapefruit and int of sweetness.

Taste is piney and citrusy with a potent bitterness that is bouyed by a slightly sweet malt base. Notes of grapefruit and grass, very well balanced.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice IPA, bordering on west coast. My favorite from Cigar City so far.

Canned 08/02/2019.

L: Pours a cloudy yellow-gold with off-white head with low retention.
S: Citrus, melon.
T: Tropical fruit, citrus. A bit of bitterness lingers on the finish. Clean malt base.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

I like this one. The hop combination provides a good flavor and the malt flavor mostly takes a back seat. The flavor on the finish isn't that strong and doesn't bother me too much, but it's the only thing holding this back from a higher score.
