Got this one from desp a while back. Cheers, man!

From a 750 into a snifter
Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with coffee and vanilla

APPEARANCE: Thick, dark black pour yields a 3+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy and fizzy, dark mocha colored head with half good retention. Head fizzes down to a full cap. Pitch black body with no carbonation evident. Touches of wisp and ring remain leaving traces of lacing down the glass. Color of both the body and head is out of this world but the head is a little fizzier than I’d like for top marks.

SMELL: Roasted coffee beans, bourbon barrel, sweet cream, milk and pure dark chocolate and some definite vanilla beans on the nose. Some alcohol is here too. Massive and plenty boozy. Bold stuff and the coffee is really nice.

TASTE: Roasted coffee beans, sweet milk chocolate and vanilla alongside a strong oak-bourbon barrel up front. Some decent alcohol at the swallow as well. Flavorful. Bold and lingering finish of bourbon, oak, sweet cream and vanilla beans. Milk chocolate sweetness combine with pure chocolate and roasted coffee beans, adding a strong bitterness to match the vanilla and butterscotch laced oak-bourbon barrel. Some alcohol lingers as well.

PALATE: Full body and slightly lower levels of carbonation. Heavy and silky slick, goes down creamy smooth and finishes quite sticky. Some heat lingers. Thick, heavy, silky and decadent.

OVERALL: The question: Why? The answer; YES! This is immortal. How anyone could rate this anything other than insanely awesome is beyond all common sense. Like the straight bourbon barrel release of this one, it's all-happiness all-the-time. These guys make the best base stout in the world, that being The Good Marshal himself, and whatever treatment they give him, whether it be turning him into the Mayan Hero Twins or morphing him into an even more heavily armed version of himself, it always works out like gold. This is no exception. Thanks again, desp! Lovely.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep black beer topped by a finger of dense dark brown head which fades quickly leaving almost no trace and no lacing.
S: Smells of lots of coffee and vanilla with a little oak, roasted malts, and some bitter dark chocolate.
T: Taste is some nice coffee and chocolate with some sweet vanilla. Caramel and oak from the barrels along with some nice roasted malt presence. Coffee and vanilla remain toward the forefront throughout with some really great barrel presence. Swallow is more coffee, chocolate and vanilla with some lingering oak and roasted malts.
M: This beer is big and thick on the palate. Not quite chewy but close. Carbonation is low but adequate and the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a great beer with some really nice flavors and complexity. The adjuncts are fresh and vibrant on the palate while the rest of the beer is also there in good form. Very good although a little on the expensive side.

750ml bottle poured into an El Catador snifter. Bottling date of 04/10/17 etched on the neck of the bottle. Coffee, vanilla, bourbon on the nose. The aroma is just fantastic! Really nice smooth, thick, chewy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The taste like the aroma is dark roasted malts and bittersweet coffee up front, oak, vanilla, and a lingering sweetness in the finish. There is nothing to dislike in this brew, another fantastic brew from Cigar City. The barrel aging takes a really good beer in Penultimate Push and makes it outstanding.

Aged properly for over 6 months. Feels like I've had it longer. Allowed to warm for a good hour.

L: 2F head, brown chocolate-milk color, with OK retention, leaving a thin cap and ring but no lacing. Beer is a solid dark-brown or black.

S: Roasted malts, coffee, predominate. Vanilla kicks in light and late, as it does with so many of these. A subdued oaky bourbon barrel whiff. Pretty subtle, which will be nice if taste goes along with nose. Really no evidence of alcohol in nose as well.

T: Yeah, not quite. Lots of roasted malts and some bitter dark coffee, with a very tiny whiff of bourbon barrel and even less vanilla. Impressively, just about no alcohol presence, just a tiny tiny bit of heat on finish (part of why we age these, kids). It's quite decent, just doesn't live up to nose or hype. Keep reading.

F: Medium to full body, with a wonderfully creamy mouthfeel that is incredibly well-done. Very little carbonation, as you might expect. Construction very good, absolute full marks for balance, as this is a joy to drink.

O: It's just not quite there in taste, otherwise this would be an absolute world-beater. RIS makers definitely should try to equal or exceed the mouthfeel.

750 mL bottle. Inky black, thick body. Big dark mocha head. Smells of coffee, nutty malts, bourbon, licorice, lots of alcohol. Tastes of oak, bourbon, heavy chocolate, coffee. Strong alcohol. Nutty malt and chocolate back end. Really heavy and boozy. Enormous alcoholic stout. I struggled with my pour.

Pours syrupy pitch black with a dark khaki head. Mostly coffee, some roast notes, and just a little bit of barrel. Taste is not dissimilar to regular penultimate, perhaps a little bit more body and fudgy. Feel is thick and sticky like all cc stouts. Overall penultimate push is an excellent beer but the barrel does not add all that much to what is already an excellent beer.

Dark body, dark brown head. Very nice retention.

Bourbon and vanilla on the nose, along with coffee and roast notes. Smells boozy but inviting.

Flavor follows: it's a bigger, sweeter, nuttier version of Penultimate Push. Incredible depth of flavors: chocolate, vanilla, coconut, oak, boozy bourbon, coffee. Flavors mingle together more than separate waves, although the bourbon is strongest mid-palate, and the finish has a kiss of char.

Thick, creamy, and hot.
