750mL bottle acquired through the El Catador Club. Bottled 1/5/18. Served in a Cigar City teku. Enjoyed 7/22/18.

Pours oil black with two and a half fingers of quickly-shrinking dark tan head. Within a few moments only a narrow uneven perimeter remains with only a couple dots on the surface and a couple small islands of lace.

Aromas of bourbon and coffee are immediately present in the nose. Fudge, heavy cream, caramel and some slight char round things out.

The flavors are rich and robust. Bourbon-spiked coffee, dark chocolate fudge, caramel, faint vanilla, brown sugar, a little dark fruit, heavily roasted malt and a warming nip of alcohol. It’s delicious.

Full, creamy body with subtle carbonation that allows this decadent nectar to really coat the palate. The aftertaste is full of bourbon spiked macchiato.

Cigar City has found a way to further elevate a favorite style of mine. Cafe Americano is one of the best barrel aged coffee stouts that I’ve ever had. All the right notes come through clear and delicious here.

Another El Cat bottle; the other one died a noble death in my mouth-hole before I’d left FL proper. 750 ML bottle split with my coffee/caffe’ loving wife.

The pour is blacker than midnight on Lake Insula with a tree leaning at a 45 degree angle over your tent while the wind is rising…no, I’m not real bright. Nose is surprisingly light: roast, barrel, bourbon.

Caffe’ Americano – Bourbon Barrel Aged isn’t bad. OK, it’s curling my toes. The coffee is SPOT on (that’s a GPS/woods joke) & I swear I can taste the beans that were barrel aged, because the bourbon has layers. Wood, dark alcoholic heat, early morning coffee are ascendant. Belly warmth. Big, thick, dangerous, because I feel this should be served in pint glasses. Scratch that, imperial pint glasses. With complementary cots & ibuprofen.

I believe my lust for Cigar City stouts has been well documented over the years – here is Exhibit A. This is top-shelf stuff. The underlying stout, the coffee, the barrels – wow. Just wow. Now sorry that we half-drunkenly slugged the other bottle.

Dark shiny motor oil black with a bubbly mocha head that settles in mounds to an uneven bubbly collar.

Aroma exhibits intensely rich mocha and syrupy bourbon from a wet, dark charred oak. Notes of hefty roasted malt and molasses support.

Flavors of dark chocolate and bitter cocoa unite with a luscious, rich and deeply roasted coffee. Waxy, nutty oak is very woody, especially in the drying finish. An after taste of coconut adds a touch of sweetness, and cocoa butter comes in as it warms, in time developing a flavor akin to mocha ice cream with candied, roasted walnuts.

The medium, slick body has a crisp, sort of crunchy thin carbonation and a cottony, splintery dry finish.

I'm very relieved to say I definitely was not disappointed with one of my all time favorite beers getting the bourbon barrel treatment.

750ml bottle poured into an El Catador snifter. Bottling date of 01/05/2018 etched on the neck of the bottle. This is a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Stout brewed with vanilla, cacao nibs and bourbon barrel-aged coffee.

Bourbon, coffee, vanilla, chocolate all make up the fantastic aroma. Thick bodied, lightly carbonated, silky smooth on the tongue. The taste is fantastic as well. Sweet and roasty, coffee, and a warming finish with the sweetness lingering in the finish as well. Full of flavor, silky smooth, and the high alcohol content is deceptive. Outstanding offering from Cigar City that I consider absolutely perfect. One of my favorites I've had from CCB. One of the very few beers I've rated on BA with a perfect rating.
