Notes: Aged for months in oversized port wine barrels, this Barleywine-style Ale benefits from barrel-aging’s oxidative nature and offers notes of molasses, prunes and brown sugar.

Growler into pint glass. Pours a deep, deep ruby red- almost but not quite black. Minimal head, even with an aggressive pour. Initial impression is very smooth, heavy on the dark fruits, a good dose of molasses and brown sugar, and maybe a hint of oak. Mouthfel is viscous, sticky, and (at the risk of being repetive) very smooth. Alcohol is evident but not objectionable. Finish is sticky and fairly sweet. This is good. It's also retired, unfortunately.

Draft at Cigar City in July 2018. I am surprised this beer has not scored better. It is retired and likely not to return, but it is the only CC creation to date that rivals and potentially exceeds Hunahpu's. CC has a great dark ale collection and it continues to impress, but I found this barleywine to be top line. Incredible aroma (one to drink and the other to sniff all night!) and taste. Forget the technical descriptions, this was a great ale.

Deep, dark espresso brown, almost black. Rich, sweet barrel nose. Thick and sticky mouthfeel. Macerated fruit, brown sugar, a hint of dark chocolate, and dried plums. The barrel creates a nice wood note with a rich booze flavor that melds nicely with the heavy fruit notes. Very complex and a dark beer lover's dream. Full throttle richness in a glass.

It's a CCB barleywine, what more do I need to say?! Woody but also forward of mature red fruit spirits, the Port is in nice balance within this surprisingly round, big bodied bw, which has a soft froth and finishes semi-dry and a little sticky. This features all the dark fruits, in a good way, with toasted malt, brown sugar, baked pie crust and a warming heat.
