Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of backstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov’s with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

We brew and release Zhukov's in the summer knowing that a beer of this heft reaches its full potential a few months after release. So save a bottle for the cold winter!

Jet black in color with no light penetration. There's a fingernail of brown on the top. Moderate lacing. The aroma is comprised of chocolate, molasses, and alcohol. I taste roasted barley, molasses, chocolate, and fig. The mouth is viscous, lightly sticky, and velvety.

look: Black as all hell like a stout should be. dark mocha head that mostly recedes.
smell: gotta be the richest non BA stout i've sniffed, and richer than many of those. Not exactly BA nose but some of that rich vanilla and chocolate, dark toffee and espresso.
taste: just as rich as the nose and full of all those flavors. Damn fine stout.

2015 Bottle

Ruby brown in color with about a half inch of head that settles down but still remains. Some lacing as it drink down.

Aromas of dark fruit mixed with licorice. A bit of chocolate and coffee in there as well.

Taste is a mixture of molasses and dark fruit - raisins, figs, plums. Nice chocolate and coffee notes are also present.

Mouthful is heavy and very smooth. Carbonation is medium. Finish is even and semi dry.

No surprise here that a year on a RIS turned it into a quad. That being said, this is a big stout. The profile is a bit narrow when it is cold but as it warms, there is a whole heck of a lot going on especially with a nice boozy note that comes through in the nose and taste. I would recommend trying a fresh bottle and a aged bottle.

L - Pitch black, 1/2 a finger of head, and some lacing on top of the brew

S - Chocolate, sweet, cocoa, coffee. Tons going on here

T - Semi-sweet dark chocolate dominates, molasses , brown sugar, etc.

F - Full body and well carbonated

O - An intense Russian Imperial Stout. CC nails it. Well done

This beer is as jet black in color as I've seen. Pours a nice head. Aroma is raisin and soy sauce. Taste is sweet and thick with bitterness at the end that stays with you. Good beer.

The very dark brown body and opaque was impressive to look at, but the medium brown head was even more so, small and short lived as it was. The aroma was most reminiscent of toffee, with a strong caramel and molasses presence, not as much coffee or chocolate as I expected. The taste was more approachable than most IRS style beers, with lots of sweet chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, and smooth vanilla, and not too much astringency or acidity. The beer was easy to drink for a double digit ABV bruiser. The body was thick and soft in feel, and the alcohol warmth was well in check. This was a lovely stout, but not much to remember it by after it was gone.

pours an opaque dark oil slick with no head - only some thin lacing of bubbles. nose; chocolate, fudge, tobacco, & light char. taste; heavy dark roasted malt, fudge, chocolate, espresso, dark cherry, light char, mellow citrus hops (herbal lemon zest), light tobacco, & toffee. cherry & fudge on the aftertaste. medium carbonation & a thick, creamy mouthfeel. um, amazing. when i see a cigar city bomber, i grab it because there's a very good chance that (even if i've never heard of it) it'll be as good as this. a top tier russian imperial stout!
