Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of backstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov’s with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

We brew and release Zhukov's in the summer knowing that a beer of this heft reaches its full potential a few months after release. So save a bottle for the cold winter!

Bomber. Pours black as motor oil, thin mocha head, little lacing. Chocolate marshmallow sweet aroma. Sweet sugary chocolate coffee flavor, toffee notes, full of flavor. Medium soft silky feel. Touch of bitterness in the end. Very tasty RIS

This one pours a very dark and menacing black, with a small head, mocha colored, with no lacing.

Smells pretty wonderful- there's a great earthy and charred roasted malt quality to the aroma, with licorice, tobacco, slight dark fruit, bitter dark chocolate, and quite roasty coffee. There's a lot going on here.

The taste brings a new dimension to it- it's definitely a pretty hoppy stout fresh- there's some pine, and maybe even a little bit of citrus. Otherwise, it's a roasty dream throughout- this is thick, and burly, not too sweet- just the way a good Russian Imperial Stout should be. There's some licorice, and tobacco, a little bit of chocolate, and a definite coffee-esque feel to it, between the roast and the chocolate flavors. God, this is good.

This is rich, and pretty thick bodied, so unbelievably chewy and full, with no syrupy feeling, and a clean finish. Masterful execution.

This is a bruiser of a beer- the way a good stout should be. One of the best.

A top-notch stout that is utterly balanced, high abv and tons of flavor with every edge smoothed off. The only downside is the smell, which is like fish sauce, soy/anchovy esque. Don't let that deter you - I tasted this side by side with about ten other Cigar City beers at a "tap takeover" event, many of the other beers were sweet, delicious, heavily flavored, and Zhukov was in a class by itself. A gateway to grownup beers, too bad it's only seasonally available and 16 bucks a bottle... but again it was the clear winner stacked up against ten other very tasty beers. Had it on draft, cask aged, thick body and completely black with a short dark brown head.
