Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of backstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov’s with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

We brew and release Zhukov's in the summer knowing that a beer of this heft reaches its full potential a few months after release. So save a bottle for the cold winter!

2016 version is good but too sweet. I suggest aging it for a few more months.

Smells amazing though.

Pours thick and dark. First sip was at refridgerated temp, not great. Let it warm up for 30-40 minutes and it smooths out to something very good. Molasses heavy, complex, and will stay on your palate all night.

2015 vintage on tap at The Answer brewery.

Very peat-heavy. Roasty, savory, quite nice.

Pours opaque black with thick body and medium fizz.

Smells almost smoked, with heavy nodes of charred barely and only a little bit of fruit complexities to sweeten be things up. Tastes very much like it smells; charred, meaty, with a lightly sweet and alcoholic finish.

I have had Zhukov on a few occasions. Always with some age on them. This rating is for a fresh one but will point out how age affects it. Pours an otherworldly black color. It eats the light when you hold it up to it with almost absolutely no head. Exactly what a stout should look and pour like. Smell is roasty, char, with a barely perceptible sweetness at the very front of your nose almost like caramel. Booze also comes through and is not at all hidden. Taste reveals some serious dark fruit but is generally dry. The sweetness on the nose does not really translate in the taste. It leaves a slightly bitter astringent aftertaste that is pleasant and reminiscent of many stouts. When this beer develops some age, this attribute entirely disappears and you are left with no bitterness and an almost creamy aftertaste. This is a rather thick beer that coats your lips and feels rather smooth going down. Overall I would say this is a really good beer when young. Give it some age and it becomes something truly special. All the in your face that is present when young mellows out and melds in to a perfect harmony of a Russian Imperial Stout. Worth Seeking out and having self control to let it sit for a little bit. Makes a world of difference!

Bought this bottle at Cigar City Brewery in Tampa; like everything they brew, this is a fine example of the style. Cheers. HOG

Tastes of cherries that give it sweetness and chocolate that complement the malt, the molasses gives it a syrupy texture. Thick sticky legs, nice dark head, very "chewy" and heavy. Halfway through a snifter and it hits me, I'm drunk!

Large shared 2014 bottle.
Lightly sweet, a better level than Surly Darkness or Dark Lord, tried in the same tasting session.
Plenty of dark dried fruit. Lightly boozy in a way that fits the other characteristics.
