Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of backstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov’s with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

We brew and release Zhukov's in the summer knowing that a beer of this heft reaches its full potential a few months after release. So save a bottle for the cold winter!

Appearance – The beer was jet black with only a few bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell – The nose was dominated by dark chocolate and malts.

Taste – My initial impression is deep dark chocolate. There is almost a syrupy quality, but it is not too sweet. Burnt malts and a little spiciness are also included, which leads well into a dry chocolate after.

Mouthfeel – The stout clings to the tongue and mouth amid the assault on the taste buds.

Overall – Though not overly chocolatey, this is close to being a chocolate stout. I would certainly seek this one again.

One of the darkest beers I've had with dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate and dark fruits with some coffee bitterness. Chocolate comes through more on the taste along with coffee, molasses, and pipe tobacco. Dark fruits come through on the finish. It is very sweet but there's a lot of roast to balance it. Huge mouth feel. For a non-barrel aged stout with nothing added, this is tough to beat.

Bottle dated July 2014. Pours a thick oily black. with a quickly reducing dark brown head.

Aromas of roasty dark malts, deep molasses, raisin, chocolate and a touch of sherry.

Huge robust flavor - deep roasty malt, sweet molasses and brown sugar, dark fruit (raisin and cherry). Finishes with some bitter hops and an almost smoky ash.

The mouthfeel is thick with luxurious prickly carbonation. Phenomenal.

I had this once before towards the end of a tasting where it was overwhelming after a bunch of other beers. This is best enjoyed on its own but shared given that it is epic. The mouthfeel is reminiscent of a barrel aged beer. This is one of the best imperial stouts I've had though I'd prefer if it was less sweet.

Review from memory, beer shared with friends a year ago. Thick oily pour, tall espresso head with poor retention. Lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate and some coffee in the taste and aroma. An excellent RIS.

Pours black with a thick brown head. Smells of coffee, cocoa nibs, dark roast malts. Tastes of dark chocolate, roast malts, maple syrup, mocha and molasses. Full body, medium carbonation aftertaste of dark chocolate and roast malts. Outstanding!!!
