Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of backstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov’s with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

We brew and release Zhukov's in the summer knowing that a beer of this heft reaches its full potential a few months after release. So save a bottle for the cold winter!

Pours a dark midnight color. Aroma is roasted malts with a hint of dark fruit. Flavor follows the nose with more pronounced dark fruit and a rich body. Overall a really nice RIS.

I tried this at Kickbacks in JAX. The beer poured an opaque dark with no head left no lace. The scent was hints of anise and vanilla. The taste was not overly easy to drink....some vanilla and earth. The mouthfeel was medium in body subtle carbonation. Overall it was a ok.

Moderate pour yields a one inch dark tan/light brown head over dark brown/ almost black body with nice lacing. Nose of dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, milk chocolate. mocha, caramel, molasses, espresso, hazelnut, and vanilla. Whew! Taste picks up on all the aromas as it warms. Very nice, smooth feel. Overall, damn this is good!

The people pours a nice brown and creamy head that dissipates fairly quickly but still looks very nice. The beer itself is phenomenal. It's a nice dark chocolate black color with a syrupy texture that betrays its heft. The texture definitely has some weight to this baby.

The smell is good but a little boozy. The hazelnut note seems to dominate everything and covers the vanilla as well. The chocolate is very light but the hazelnut and light vanilla note are bold enough and good enough to make up for the rest of the notes.

The taste is really good. It has a strong hazelnut at the center of the beer but has a stronger vanilla note taste mixing with a cocoa like chocolate note with a light roasted malt note and hop bitterness to it. It definitely tastes like a RIS and the additions don't hurt the flavor at all.

The body is very good. The heavy body has a nice lightly syrup feel with a nice heft like you're eating some nice liquid hazelnut spread. The carbonation is fairly light though but it adds a nice fuzziness to it.

Overall, this is a fantastic beer and worth getting a hold when it's available. The notesmix well with each other and the body is like nothing else.

Look- Dark brown with a dark tan head
Smell- Coffee, chocolate, toffee, roasted malt.
Taste- Very robust flavor. Sweet chocolate and roasted malt at the front with a sweet coffee finish. Excellent for an imperial stout
Feel- heavy bodied normal of an Imperial stout
Overall- Fantastic beer. Imperial stout with a rich sweet chocolate and coffee flavor. Pricey beer but definitely worth the investment.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a speiglau stout glass.

Look is pitch opaque black with a dark tan/ brown head.

Aroma is semi Belgian. Less dried roasted malt more dark fruits.

Taste is like a blend of a Belgian and a RIS in the best way possible. It is roasty but with a lot of complexity.

Absolutely delicious beer.

2015 Bomber

Thick, oily pour with a shallow tan head that settles and leaves solid lacing.

Smell is more dark fruit than malts, interesting non-adjunct imperial stout. Taste is right in line with this... there's a very thick body and nice malty backbone, but you don't necessarily get a lot of it in the taste... the taste is subtle, but sweet dark fruits like raisins/dates.

Really enjoyed this, and put it right up there with the best non barrel aged or adjunct stouts!

Bottle date 7/28/15:
This beer pours like the oft-cited motor oil, black and seemingly thick. After I stop the pour, the fairly deep brown head starts to bubble forth to eventually create a cm thick head. As I wait for it to warm slightly, the head collects creamily at the rim while a thin sheet covers the surface.

Nose is heavy on chocolate in the form of cocoa and candy bar, almost simultaneously. I'm expecting a sweeter beer with this nose because of this. There's a little coconut and raisin carob bon-bon note to this aged version. There's lighter accents of prune, dark cherry, fig and maybe the lightest note of alcohol.

Feel is thick, somewhat creamy, and oily, like the look. The very opening note is a subdued version of the wonderful nose - leaning sweet. The light fruit notes alight my palate for a second, but they leave as a smoky meat flavor comes forward. The chocolate notes continue along, and survive after the smoke to balance with it going into the end taste. As it warms, the smoke doesn't leave, but the chocolate has a little resurgent and I also can get some berry notes if I think about it. The feel smooths slightly with warmth, but there is a little bite from the smoky nature or the alcohol - not sure which.

This is a lovely looking and very fragrant beer. The taste shifts from the nose with the smoky notes I didn't get originally in the nose. Once I tasted it, though, the smoke came to my olfactory sense, taking a little part from the fruity notes I originally got. Definitely a strong example of an imperial stout!
