A - The base beer pours phenomenal and so does this one. Deep black in color with a lovely brown one finger head. No real lacing to speak of.

S - The cedar punches you right away. Once you're used that, then you'll find dark chocolate and molasses hiding in the background.

T - Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and plums. The cedar is mixed in with all those flavors.

M - Perfect... Thick and carbonated to coat your palette.

O - I had the regular Marshal Zhukov last night and prefer the Humidor Series. In my opinion, the cedar really balances out the sweetness of the RIS base beer. A very well done RIS!

A - Black body, a 1/2 finger of dark brown head that disappeared quickly.

S - Dark fruits, a lot of wood/cedar.

T - A big blast of cedar wood at first that fades into more familiar stout flavors. Dark fruits, raisins, plums, dark chocolate, molasses.

M - Very thick, a bit sticky. Not too much carbonation.

Good stuff. A nice take on the original.

Poured from the big 1 pint 9.4 oz bottle dated SEPT 2011 into a tall snifter. It comes out thick and dark like motor oil. It leaves a head color reminiscent of an espresso crema. Some markings are left on the glass.
The initial smell reveals coffee and chocolate in the forefront, but the cedar and alcohol are not far behind. Some sweetness is present.
Coffee and dark chocolate were more prominent in the beginning, but as I continued to drink and it warmed the cedar seemed to get more pronounced. The taste just wasn't gelling with me after awhile. I think it was all the alcohol and cedar that just got old quickly.
It has a full body with light carbonation. Dry.

P-Good size bottle, solid looking building. Digging the cigar band label.

A-poured out a jet black with a midnight look. Thick and milky. Soft mocha foam that didnt last long. Bits of red glaze shine through.

S-smells a little like a cigar box. Get chocolate and a bit of cherries. Bits of vanilla and grape. Plum and cedar are scarce.

T-A bit rustic and tart. A little smoke and also dark. Cherries and cedar are present but not too much. Tiny vanilla notes and coffee esspresso.

M-Thick and heavy. Definitely full bodied. Sticky and pasty as well. A round taste with little carbonation. A bit flat but its welcomed.

O-Made really well and didnt do overdo it with the cedar. I like the thickness of the beer and how it sticks. Nice blend. Would have liked to see the flavors come out a bit more to really showcase the beer. Really good though.

Poured from tap into a Tulip glass.

Color: Black with a dark brown head.

Smell: Chocolate, coffee and cedar.

Taste: Chocolate coffee, alcohol, cedar and slighly smokey.

Mouthfeel: Creamy with good carbonation and pleasantly smooth.

Overall: Was able to enjoy this on-tap at Sweetwater Grill for the Cigar City tap takeover.
Has a great complexity to this one. The cedar and alcohol come thru very nicely. Cheers!

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Cigar City Brewing branded snifter

Pours black as pitch capped by a smooth dark brown one and half finger head. Obviously the cedar-aged version retains the amazing appearance of Marshall Zhukov, one of the most gorgeous imperial stouts one can find. Tons of deep dark chocolate and dark fruit all accented by the aroma of cedar. Opens with dark chocolate notes, prunes, black cherry notes, and raisins. Molasses notes midpalate joined by pleasant cedar. Finishes with roasted dark chocolate malt, espresso notes, and continued cedar accents. Huge full body, lower level of carbonation. Velvety, creamy mouthfeel-darn near perfect. Just an absolutely wonderful brew. The base beer is one of the best Russian imperial stouts available and the aging on cedar just gives it another dimension.
