Pours a nice golden color with a short and pretty white head.

Aroma of earthy hops and sweet bread-like notes.

It has that grape-like and sulphur quality you expect in a pils. Sharp hop bitterness and a light metallic twang.

Hefty body isn't watery.

Overall a good pils and a hoppier CCB lager alternative to Hotter Than Helles Lager, which (to be fair) is a different style.

12oz bottle

With a summer pilsner at 5.5%, I was hoping for a refreshing beer with a good amount of flavor. However, the beer is not refreshing in the least and the flavors were a bit of a letdown. The aftertaste is probably my least favorite part of the beer, I don't know if it is the hops that are not agreeing with my palate. Overall, probably one of my least favorite CCB beers that I've tried.

12 oz bottle into a Pils glass. Thanks go to Stakem for the hookup on this bottle.

Pours a clear paler gold, topped with a couple fingers of rich bright-white head. This retains with a sturdy finger or so of froth, which leaves back sticky swathes of robust lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells fresh and grassy, with some more floral and mineral tones working their way in, along with a combination of ripe citrus and sweet malts that give this a green tanginess across the back of the nose.

The taste has a fresh citric bitterness that bites the tongue, with some leafy notes that hangs on the edges, before running into a wall of balancing sweet corn and biscuit character. The stickiness of this actually lingers into the back of the profile a bit too much, before this finish dry with a steady spiciness that picks up steam as this warms. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp feeling up front that then segues into more of a smooth creaminess across the back. This has a nice quenching feel to it that helps carry the overall beer.

This was a pretty decent stab at a Pre-Prohibition Lager, with a bit too much of a stickiness to it from the corn and malt here but just enough of a spicy crispness to help counteract that and help keep this drinkable. This is a unique summer seasonal. I’m glad Cigar City is putting it out.
