Jai Alai IPAJai Alai IPA
Notes: Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt whilst the ball travels at speeds up to 188 mph! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dubbed this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, "the merry game." Tampa was once home to a bustling Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. Pair Jai Alai India Pale Ale with beef empanadas, deviled crabs and other spicy dishes.

I am generous on reviews at times but I have reserved the really high scores for outstanding beers. This one is one I have wanted to try for a long time and thanks to a fantastic trade I have acquired this one. I might have to keep this one hot on the pipeline! Jesus its good!

Look: Perfect color for an IPA in my opinion, they range from all over the place but this one sits on the darker side of that fence and I tend to like those better. This one is a reddish amber color with a bit of copper in there. Head remains pretty solid throughout the pour.

Smell: Sweet not overly so, you can detect some malts in there, but this beer is fantastic in the aroma. Nice tropical fruits, mango, papaya, guava, maybe some passionfruit in there as well. Its not as intense as the flavor will give up.

Flavor: Holy shit this is the best tasting IPA I have ever had no doubt. It blends everything I like in this style of beer. Its sweet but not overly so, its got a nice resinous quality to it, but its balanced by the malts, this is a hugely balanced beer. Its on the assertive side more than pseudosue or Zombie Dust, but then those are technically Pale Ales. This beer is not too bitter but bitter enough. Super enjoyable great mouthfeel, not sticky but not overly drying either. I want a case next time I go to the beach!

Overall: Thus far this is the best IPA I have ever had. No doubt. It is rated highly and for good reason. I have a few more CCB beer waiting for me, but those are a completely different style, but if this is indicative of what this brewery can do, I am happy to trade again for just about anything! This is truly an outstanding IPA!

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours orange red with a fluffy slightly off white head. Smells of citrus and piney hops. Tastes of citrus and piney hops, nice and full. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Jai Alai is one of my go to beers. It's easy to find down here in Florida & I really appreciate that. Wonderful tropical smell.
Taste is citrus, orange, nice hop kick, pine spice and sweet caramel malt to balance it out. Great brew!

12 oz can into a pint glass. Slightly hazy pale amber color with a foamy white head that receded to a thin film but left some rings of lace. Strong citrus and hop resin aroma. Taste follows, a citrus smorgasbord with some smooth malt to round it out in a very flavorful but not overwhelming IPA. Medium-full bodied and very drinkable despite the 7.5% ABV. An excellent IPA.

L: Poured from a 12 ounce can into a pint glass. Two fingers of smooth ivory head that slowly dissipates to a thin cap. Lots of soapy lacing on the glass while sipping. The beer itself is a medium amber.

S: the aroma is a mix of tropical fruit an resins darkness.

T: The flavor is redolent with tropical citrus with a solid caramel malt backbone. No particular flavor dominates the palate, but it's all there.

T: Smooth on the tongue, with velvety creaminess. No alcohol burn.

O: This is a fine IPA with excellent flavor and body, well made and worth a couple more cans.

As a native Floridian, don’t let my bias skew anyone from how fantastic this easy drinking IPA is in the summer sun. Combined with how widely available it is on tap throughout central Florida, this Jai Lai is hard to top.

Note to self - revisit this one. As with anything I try that's super highly rated, and don't much enjoy - I'm willing to try again. Perhaps not the freshest and I don't remember seeing a canning date. Was straight meh, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

From a 12oz can, dated 01/20/22. Purchased at the brewery 02/26/22. Served in a spiegelau IPA glass.

Pours a chill hazed, darker orange-gold with two fingers of cream colored, lathery head. Retention is excellent, leaving a heavy, sudsy cap and fat gobs of lacing.

Nose is malty, citrusy. Aromas of grapefruit, sweet buns, orange icing.

Taste follows the nose, grainy, citrusy and bracingly bitter. Dominant flavour note for me is bitter orange peel. Tasting orange, bread roll, grapefruit juice and spicy pine.

Feel is oily, medium-full bodied and brightly carbonated.

Overall, a well-crafted, clean drinking and balanced brew. Easy to see why it’s a go-to IPA. I wish I could get this fresh in my local stores.

Look...darker orange brown with an little haze. White frothy head
Smell...a rich hop aroma with the smell of candied dark fruit. i am lucky to get this within a few weeks of canning and bought knowing that to test it appropriately. Had this beer several years ago.
Taste...candied fruit off the hop into a bitter sweet dying mellow. The finish is where i find a lot of balance. A bit alike to other beers i have had. Reminiscent to Two Heated from Bells to me.
Feel...medium carbonation that incites an old school IPA Bite that i can really appreciate.
Overall....I respect the crap out of this beer and when in the mood for an old school IPA this is a very fine selection

This is a very good west coast style IPA to give beginners to. Had a very good mix of hops not also smooth enough to not scare away new beer drinkers like some of Calis IPAs. Love this beer, but feel the white oak version is superior, and prob in my top 25 of beers ever

How have I not rated this yet? This is in my Mount Rushmore of IPAs. Damn good IPA and it's hard to say anything bad about it. Smells great and has the perfect combination of ibus and citrus. This is top notch and you can't go wrong with it.
