Gorgeous beer. Dark brown but not opaque. Thick fizzy tan head with excellent retention. Smells of caramel, toasted malts, and pea nuts. It's a good aroma, I just wish it was more pronounced. Toasted flavor; with a hint of caramel and cigar. Good beer. Balanced mouthfeel. There's a lot going on in this beer but I feel like you have to reach for it.

 

 

Just nice... balanced stable.. malty. Notes of Chocolate ... Smooth and just enough bitter balance to leave a sweetness lingering on your tounge... Inviting another sip...

Poured into a Nonic pint glass from a 12-oz can 2 1/2 mo’s after its canning fate.

Look: A pretty beer — ruby brown, two fingers tan head with decent retention, and producing abundant lacing.

Nose: Faint roasted malt.

Attack: Follows the nose exactly, then the flavor deepens.

Finish: Some hop bitterness to balance the malt.

Mouthfeel: Medium thin, and a little too much carbonation.

Overall: Another very good, very drinkable English Brown. While, as with the Alesmith Nut Brown, I prefer both the now defunct Rogue Hazelnut Brown, and Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale, just a bit more, I’d gladly order and enjoy drinking this one. I do agree with the brewer’s notes — this would be an excellent beer to accompany a cigar.

 

Your above average brown ale. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is cocoa, caramel, chocolate syrup. Taste was slightly cocoa with a slight dark chocolate bitterness. Very nice brown ale.

Had this gem right out of the spigot at Cigar City in Tampa. As a true beer snob who drinks new beers almost nightly, i was stunned at how good this was, i cannot say i have tasted anything better in the less than 6 abv range, Noy easy to find in my home Alabama. Find it occasionally in cans in Birmingham stores. Just as good poured from a can into a chilled pint glass at my house. A real treat when i find it.

Appearance: The 12-ounce can has a brown decoration that plays homage to the cigar wrapping namesake of the beer. A small centimeter of soft khaki foam was poured into a room temperature glass. The head went away quickly, even after a proper pour. A light ring and some surface color was left, as anticipated with the style. The color is a beautiful mahogany.

Aroma: Strong notes of chocolate syrup, lactose, marshmallows, milk, sugar cone, hazelnut, and peanut shells.

Taste: Oatmeal, malt, cacao, cola, cookie, caramel, roasted coffee, root beer barrel candy, nutshells. Bitter aftertaste.

Feel: Just the right amount of carbonation that doesn't fade away. Thinner than expected but not necessarily in a bad way.

Overall: This is a very self-aware beer that nails its own unique flavor profile. There is complexity and breadth. The beer has a lot going for it but only if you like the specific style.
