It’s hard to make a really good brown ale. This is a really good brown ale.

Color is an opaque dark brown. Plenty of light tan, moderately fine head.

The smell has molasses and cocoa powder. It's pretty lactic, too. There's also a honey wafer scent. Light sweet smokiness.

The first taste I get is charred barrel, accompanied by a little bit of dark dried fruit, call it figs and raisins. The lactic element is still there, but it kind of drifts on its own, not really connected to anything. I keep thinking something else is going to develop, but the charred barrel just pushes right back. I do get a bit of oatmeal grain on the back end.

Feel is thin for the type, and carbonation comes out a little too easily. Smoky aftertaste is pleasant.

Day drinking stop at Twin Peaks in Pensacola. Served wayyy too cold so not much of a chance to warm up and show it's true colors. Still super tasty. Haven't had a brown ale in a while. Solid and recommended.

Canned 11/06/17
Drinks like a porter but with more flavor than most examples of that style. Crazy flavor profile for a brown ale. Drinks smooth and easy. Best beer I've had from Cigar City so far.

A:
Pours a clear-but-opaque-in-the-glass mohagany with an inch and a half of fizzy tan head that disappears fairly quickly. Okay retention; scattered lacing. (4.25)

S:
Sweet roast nuts, brown sugar, light coffee. (4.25)

T:
Follows the nose. Nutty, slightly sweet, medium roastiness, hard water/carbonic bite at the finish.  (4.25)

M:
Medium body with medium carbonation, extremely drinkable with a clean finish. (4.25)

O:
This is a stellar example of a brown.
It is rich and drinkable at the same time. There is less sweetness and more caramelized nuttiness than some others. It is an easy-drinking and fully satisfying beer that I would love to have again.
Don't be afraid to let it warm up a little in the glass. (4.25)
