One of the very few beers that I've passionately disliked. Everything else I've had from Cigar City has been top notch, but Maduro tasted like a mix between wet dog and stale cardboard... I hope it is just a bad batch. My dad and my uncle agree with me on this one.

12oz can, canned on 04/07/15, served in a Libby globe porter glass.

Appearance: Bright dark brown/ruby red/dk amber when held up to the light. Thin white ring at the edge and no foam across the top. No lacing.

Smell: Burnt sugar, a tiny bit of smoke, roasted malts.

Taste: Reminds me more of a porter than an English brown ale. Nice roasted malts with good flavors of chocolate and brown sugar / malt sweetness to back it up. Finish is mildly bitter, with none of the metallic twang to sometimes get with an English brown. There is a tiny bit of leafy tobacco to the finish.

Mouthfeel: Fizzy and highly carbonated. Prickly on the tongue. Not right for the style. There is some thickness and mild stickiness though under the high carbonation.

Overall / Drinkability: Nice color, good taste, but not an English brown ale. Reminds me more of an American porter, but too over carbonated. One is enough - I'm not interested in another.

In Tampa 4/16/15

Blackish brown Color with nice sweet aroma. Not bad. Kind of a heavy brown ale but pretty good. A bit on the sweeter side but not enough to be a dessert beer. Like it but don't love it.

Basic Brown Ale. Roasted malts, a touch of caramel. Easy drinking but one dimensional, and could use a little more presence in the mouthfeel, or better yet a little humidor touch. Can makes it easy to bring on a boat, to the beach/swimming pool.
