Notes:
El Catador Club 11th edition bottle #7
Rum Barrel-aged Double Nut Brown Ale with Cinnamon, Raisins and Lactose,
Cigar City Brewing summons the ghost of Fannie Merritt Farmer, the inventor of the oatmeal raisin cookie, by adding cinnamon, raisins and lactose to a Rum Barrel-aged Double Nut Brown Ale base to create an other-worldly barrel-aged creation.
Tasting Notes:
Cinnamon, allspice and caramel aromas greet the nose with occasional hints of oak and semi-sweet chocolate complimenting. Viscous but never cloying on the palate, this beer delivers toffee, nutmeg, and bread crust flavors punctuated by rum spice, an alcohol warmth and a moderate woody quality.

750ml bottle poured into an El Catador snifter. This is part of the 11th edition of the CCB El Catador club. Fannie Merritt Farmer’s Ghost is a rum barrel aged double nut brown ale. Cinnamon and raisins fill the air when poured. The rum barrel is noted aplenty on the nose as well. The taste is sweet and spicy with a lot of booze and warmth. Overall, this one is a bit too boozy fresh. The alcohol seems to overpower the base beer. I’ll be interested to see how my second bottle ages.

Final bottle from Edition XI of the El Catador Club & I have to say that while the beers have been good, several other rounds have surpassed this one. 750ML bottle split with the wife.
The pour is dark – shades of darkness mean little to me, unless I’m trying to find a tree to pee on after stumbling out of a tent after midnight. The nose is light: rum & cinnamon.
Upon imbibing Fannie Merritt Farmer’s Ghost & not having read the bottle, my wife immediately says “Tastes like an oatmeal raisin cookie”. Her palate was always better than mine. I get mostly rum with a hefty side of cinnamon (by way of Hayley Williams). By less varying degrees come toffee, black bread, & a wide-bodied slash of booziness. My chest is warm, like a cat is laying it, except I’m not sneezing. Bit harsh, fusel alcohol style. A few ounces of this would have been sufficient.
Eh. Rum is a bit much & drowns the beer like a bowling ball necklace. Pretty good beer.
