Had on-tap at CCB tasting room. Poured into a pint glass.

A: Very dark brown. Not quite opaque. Amorphous foam at the top, but not really a big head. Minimal visible carbonation.

S: Roasted malt dominates. Not a big vanilla nose, if any.

T: Nutty brown flavor (can brown be a flavor? It is here) with the vanilla roaring in at the end. On an unexpected note, the vanilla flavor seemed to diminish as the beer warmed. I'm unsure it I just got acclimated to it or if it actually started to disappear.

M: Medium body to slightly thin for the style. Slight sweetness to the finish.

O: Good. Not great. Maduro has never been my favorite (personal preference here; as an example of style, or for someone that is seeking out an Oatmeal Brown I would highly recommend one). But, I thought I'd give the vanilla variant a shot. I probably prefer it slightly to the base beer.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jacksonville.

A - essentially opaque with mahogany highlights. Has a thin bubbly tan head.

S - Sweet aroma with a clear but not too strong vanilla note; hint of milk chocolate.

T - Largely follows the aroma, but the vanilla is too dominant and the beer is too sweet. Roasted malt and oatmeal are detectable.

M - Near medium body but too thin for style. Would also be better with a slight increase in carbonation.

O - Disappointing: I prefer the regular Madura.

On-tap.

Pours a clear chestnut brown color with a one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of vanilla bean first and foremost, with good amounts of toasted and chocolate malt aromas backing it up. As it warms the vanilla aroma fades a bit and hints of tobacco enter into things.

Tastes very similar to how it smells, although the supporting cast members are a bit more intense. Toasted and lightly roasted chocolate malt flavors kick things off and are joined almsot immediately by smooth vanilla flavors. Midway through the sip the vanilla subsides a bit and hints of milk chocolate and tobacco make an appearance then carry through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass and could have another.

Overall I'm not so sure I don't like this better without the addition of vanilla beans, however that's not to say the addition isn't interesting. Worth a shot.

On tap at Cigar City takes NYC event at Rattle 'N' Hum. Raters at my table were not so oy-yoy-yoy about the vanilla, but I appreciated the vanill's edge and smoothness,a rising above the chocolate and making it a decent drinker, owing to it being more on the sweeter side.Very dark with a whisp of a head, suitably carbonated.

Tasted in the brewery when I picked up a growler to send to Koopa. I just now found my notes.

Pours a nice dark brown with a frothy, big head. Very creamy appearance.

Not too much going on in the nose. I would have liked some vanilla, but it smells a bit more like a muted Maduro.

Thankfully the taste isn't hiding like the nose. This tastes a lot like the regular Maduro, but the vanilla smooths over some of the coffee notes already present.

Very creamy in the mouth. Nice feel all around.

This is a great beer, but I would have preferred a more vanilla forward beer.
