12oz Bottle. #334 out of 450 . Served in an oversized Tulip. Big thanks for my friend and fellow BA Infestaxion for sharing this!

A: Little or no head. Deep black, with some brown around the fringe. Nice lacing.

S: Smells like bourbony chocolate covered raisins. A little bit of alcohol, vanilla and some dark fruits are also in the mix.

T: Barrel and bourbon right up front. Just like the smell, raisins and dark fruits abound. Vanilla and earthy hops are also present along with one of the bases The I.R.I.S., which comes through the most in the blend. Finishes a little sweet with some roasted coffee. The complexity definitely improved as the beer warmed, but I felt it was still a little messy.

M: Medium bodied. Feels thin and thick at different points, but overall very creamy and smooth Not a whole lot of carbonation, but for this style it fits it perfectly.

D: Excellent. I'm not sure of the ABV, but it's not really a factor. The warmer the beer got, the faster I consumed it. I would have loved the whole 12oz myself...

Yet another very impressive offering from CCB. A little young in my opinion and I think this beer will improve greatly with some age. The complexity will skyrocket, and all the favors will mesh better. Look forward to trying a bottle again in a few years.

This one did not hold up well... Brown in color, small light brown foamy head that quickly dissipates. Way oxidized... a little sour. Not a no barrel left, very meh and way past it's prime.

Very dark appearance, not pitch black, but a nearly opaque brown with a quickly settling mocha head, with carbonation you can hear popping in the head.

Wow oh wow, this beer smells great. Up front there are notes of wine and hops. They are blended very nicely with a roasty and chocolatey malt profile. It smells complex and balanced.

Chocolate, coffee, wine. There is a slight booze flavor which is not unpleasant in the slightest. The slight tartness of the wine/grape flavor balances wonderfully with the malts. This is really special. The aftertaste has an authentic whiskey flavor, like you took a shot a couple hours ago.

The body is similar to a bcbs. It's thick but not heavy. The carbonation is small and course, but there isnt too much. There is just a hint of heat in the throat. It feels like it coats your tongue when sipping, but the carbonation keeps it refreshing.

Overall this beer is simply amazing. It has the complexity of a bcbs, but more balanced and refreshing, and with less heat. This is a must have.

This is a 'kitchen sink' of beers. Every flavor imaginable is represented and in seamless fashion.

The beer pours a weighted and dark brown color and viscocity. Low levels of carbonation release a low-lying but dense head that forms a sheet across the beer and holds serve. Moderate lacing left behind. Basically opaque.

Complex aromas of licorice and red grapes give an estery start while toast and chocolate follow closely behind. Throw in the dates, cherries, figs, plumbs, prunes, and raisons and we have a lot of fruity variants. Light tones of sherry and soy give a mature and well-cellared impression to the scent.

Flavors of the sweet sorghum-like malts provide the perfect spring board for all of those esters and grain-diriven fruits. Toffee and slightly scorched sugars give a deep complextion to the aged melanoidin character of the beer. Rum-soakes stone fruits continue the estery on-slaught with emphasis on the grapes and plumbs. Blackberries also make an impact in the finish along with the sherry vinous character.

A weighted and full feel begins the beer because of richness of the beer and the low carbonation. Regardless, the beer fades quickly into a drying maltiness that eventually foregoes the toasty, powdery textures for a fleeting sweetness.

Absolutely delicious, Capricho Oscuto has a few of the intangibles that make Rochefort 10 so great, including the melanoidin and complex fruity notes.

Pours a very nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy light tan head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice oak notes, dark fruits. The taste is sweet, malty, oaky, with some dark fruits. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is my first brew from CC, and it is very tasty, Thanks Seb.

Batch 2, 2009. Bottle 44/450. Pours dark brown to black in color, some haziness is evident during the pour, a ½ inch coffee and cream tan head slowly recedes back to a faint covering. Aroma is fairly complex with some strong bourbony notes, some rich, sweet chocolate, woodiness, some nuttiness (almost sunflower seed like). Taste follows with some of the chocolate notes flashing over the tongue, before a decent smokiness as well as a strong bourbony tanginess take over. Some nutty flavor in there also, as well as a nice earthy taste towards the finish, and some black licorice notes. Mouthfeel is medium in body, medium level of carbonation, a bit of a peppery bite on the tongue, with a drying woody and earthy finish. A very interesting beer, great bourbon and smokey combination, and the chocolate and earthy notes work very well together too. A huge thanks for the hookup to the Orlando crew and major thanks to my buddy Kyle as well.

12 oz bottle, sent summer 2009 by Dstructo. White label on the neck: Batch #2 --- 2009 --- 339/450. Poured to a small La Chouffe tulip, right to the 250ml line.

It's chilly outside, it's Friday, and I just cleaned house for a few hours. This bottle has waited patiently in the fridge for many months; tonight, why not?

A: Dark charcoal/ebony, though not quite 'black'. Held to a strong light, there's a little tawny auburn tint and a dusting of fallout, but also loads of streaming carbonation. Decent head, a sandy beige that can't quite reach a finger high but holds as a skim with thickened edges. Sheeting lace in wide rings, drips like icicles.

S: Wafting aroma that's sweet and spicy, bourbon/barrel notes aplenty without being overbearing. Cocoa and brown sugar sweetness, candied raisins.

T: A strange and wonderful blend of sweet and slightly peaty/smoky scotch, cocoa and carob, dessert-like (dutch apple pie?).Vanilla and some char (thanks, Makers Mark!) and so much ground spice. The subtlest tartness in the finish, a pleasant citric tang.

M: Smooth and tightly-carbonated feel, not so heavy... let's call it a 'medium' body. A little chewier as the sipping continues, some malt stickiness , too.

D: Even two years ar so after bottling, still surprisingly 'hot' - about as boozy as an aged Goose Island Bourbon County although not nearly as sweet. No idea of the ABV here, but it certainly 'feels' STRONG (11-14%?), as such it's nothing beyond a sipper. Flavors are so good, though, that it's highly recommend for lovers of strong beers. Would love to have another, but as there were only 450 bottles produced two years ago, I'll bet there aren't many left.

A: Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a centimeter of tan head. Nice looking, but with strange splotches of darker brown that pocked the surface of the head, like liver spots or brown chicken pox. I'm guessing it was some kind of sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
S: Bourbon barrel heat, vanilla, roasty malts.
T: Bourbon, lots of chocolate, vanilla, oak, charred malts, some bitterness, not overly sweet. In fact, a tad dry compared to many bourbon BA brews.
M: Medium/heavy body and carbonation.
D: Overall delicious brew. I look forward to trying more CC beers.

2009 rate, fairly fresh bottle.

Bottle from Hopscotch. First beer I've had from this much talked about brewery. Pours a deep espresso with a nice soapy burnt sugar head. Nose is heavy on roasted espresso. Quite a bitter and roasty aroma, though inviting and nice. There's a rich, vinous element in there that reminds me of the best bottles of Worldwide Stout. Really thick and rich in the mouth. Large roasted coffee bean presence. Coffee cream. Not as burdensome as most imperial stouts, though similar in its bitter chocolate espresso heft. Bourbon is well-integrated and not as annoying as I thought it might be. This is really nice and this brewery definitely seems to do this style well. Not mind-blowing but very nice indeed. Drank from a small brandy snifter. Thanks dude!

A - Small, brown head on an opaque black body. Decent retention and moderate lace.

S - Nutty malt with rich toffee and smoky coffee. Brown sugar and molasses. Slight woody, vanilla and coconut notes.

T - Very sweet caramel with nutty chocolate and molasses. Finishes nutty with sweet malt and tobacco like hops.

M - Medium-heavy body and moderate carbonation with a sweet finish.

D - Very sweet and complex. Not the least bit drinkable because of the oppressive thickness of the malt, but the complexity makes up for the cloying sweetness.

Another beer shared by Kyle back in Oct. 31st. Thanks for knocking another one from my wants, buddy!

Poured like any other hefty stout beer, dark with about a quarter inch of mocha foam on top.

Mocha on the nose, low coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted barley and alcohol in the background. A bit of a chalky coco aroma lingering around in the back as well. Some wood notes as well.

The taste started out with bitter chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, a bit of dark fruits, some burnt malt flavors, and alcohol warmth in the back. Hints of raisins started to peak through the roast profile. Low carbonation and a semi-dry finish.

Each years batch will be a different blend of beers. This year the blend was Big Sound Scotch Ale, 110k+OT Batch 2 (IRIS), and Bolita Brown. The beers were blended and aged in Maker's Mark barrels.

A: Pours a very deep dark black hue. The head was nice tall and dark. Very good retention with nice lace.

S: Lots of bourbon up front. Hints of vanilla, dark fruit and lots of dark roasted malt. Chocolate plays a big role as well.

T: Nose is very much like the taste, but it comes at you in waves. Wonderful caramel malt up front with bold roast coming next. Waves of chocolate and toffee come in the middle. Bold milk chocolate plays well off the hints of dark fruit that manages to peek though. The hops from the IRIS can be picked up before being overtaken by the oak and vanilla from the barrel. Mmmm Boozy goodness in the finish.

M: Very full in body, bold, rich, and smooth.

D: It's a sipper, but a damn fine one.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head that retains fairly well for a big barrel-aged beer. Nice lacing, generally a good-looking beer. The aroma is loaded with bourbon and roast, layers of spice, tobacco, vanilla and caramel beneath. It's similar on the palate; roast, dark chocolate, coffee and a balanced bourbon barrel character. Medium-bodied with a stout-like finish. Nothing mind-blowing or particularly unique, but pretty enjoyable. The flavors and aromas are somewhat muted.

This beer is fantastic. Hands down just a wonderful, wonderful beer. Served chilled at cellar temp and poured into a snifter, this one was consumed on 09/05/2009.

First off I akin this one do a really good barrel aged old ale, it just did it like that for me. The pour was black death. Dark, still with minimal head and lacing. Like a black abyss to which no light can escape. So you lean in for a small, a whiff some might say, hoping to be able to get in and out quick, but this is not going to happen here. You fall in, like Alice into the rabbit hole. Deep vanilla and bourbon notes wrap their mits around your senses, you could almost suffocate on the delicate goodness that exudes from this thick beverage. Hints of figs, prunes maybe picking up, molasses and almost peat like aromas now starting to pull it together, what is this I ask?

An answer does not come easy, so I lean in to take a sip, hoping that the sweet nectar will roll across my tongue and provide an answer. Soo smooth and complex, flavors of oak and vanilla just awash on tongue. Lots of earth tones are to follow, there is that peat again with sweet notes of caramel and molasses behind it, woody and vinous at times as well. Letting it warm almost brings out that toffee flavor but there is a definite touch of chocolate in there. Intense is personified here. Silky feel to it really lets the flavor settle in with a thump and the well hidden ABV, who knows how strong it was but when it was done, lets just say I was feeling nice.

This was one of the best strong ale/old ale/ BA/ expierences I have had in a while. Comes close at times to my beloved fourth dementia. A wonderful, simply top notch expeirence here. Something I will cherish. Glad I got another bottle :)

Bottle shared by floydster on 10/31/2009. Thanks Kyle. I've got a few Cigar City beers in my fridge, but I believe this is the first time I've consumed one of the brewery's beers. Capricho Oscuro is deep brown, nearly black, with a creamy light brown head and good retention.

The nose is mixture of milk and dark chocolate with bourbon and alcohol notes. Vanilla character is strong and subtle dark fruits are evident in the background. The beer has a mild roast to it, as well as some toffee and a touch of smoke. The barrel character is really nice.

The flavor is again reminiscent of milk and dark chocolate with an added touch of brown sugar. Bourbon is present but it's not dominant. Vanilla is strong and the malt is slightly roasted. Toffee character is present throughout and I detect oak notes. Booze is strongest in the finish but it's never offensive. The beer is medium bodied with a nice low level of carbonation. Delicious stuff.

Big thanks to infestaxion for this one. Served in my FoBAB mini-pint glass.

A - A finger of dark tan foam with excellent retention and lacing. Dark, dark, brown body that's a hint lighter at the fringes. Eventually settles to a haze and a thick ring, and leaves some spotty lacing.

S - Bourbon galore. It's an earthy sharp whiskey that seems like it's lower end (checked - it's Maker's Mark), but there's also some vanilla and butterscotch from the barrels. The blend seems dominated by Big Sound, as it's very much the scotch ale malts that cut through. Also notes of leather, tobacco, and maraschino cherry. I'd like it better if the whiskey didn't smell so dirty.

T - Taste is less sharp and more chocolaty, with some burnt sugar as well. It's actually quite a bit more mellow than I expected. Again, the scotch ale tends to dominate, with strong tendencies to vanilla, tobacco, and a light smokiness. Roasty bitter aftertaste that was well-attenuated.

M - Creamy, smooth, slight carbonation tingle. Medium-thick body, with a bit of residual warmth and stickiness.

D - I wrote that this got a touch boozy, but that's probably because it was the fifth beer of the evening. Otherwise it was very easy to drink, with a wonderfully complex flavor that kept me reaching for another sip. Wish this one came in 750ml bottles.

Wow! I never thought I'd try this, thanks Dave!

Black with brown highlights. Thin tan head that recedes to a disk rather quick. The nose is complex, with smoke, roast, bourbon, vanilla, oak, caramel and toffee. Rich and decadent, this has some dark chocolate and a faint acrid character from the 110K+OT #2 The flavors are great, opening big and roasty with BA 110K character - vanilla, bourbon, burnt sugar, brown sugar, coffee, chocolate and a touch of acridity. Finishing mildly sweet with mild roast, chocolate and coffee, this medium bodied beer is thoroughly enjoyable. The mild carbonation works really well too, and the finish is quite excellent.

Pours a rich dark brown and produces a solid half inch khaki head that has great retention and leaves thick lacing all around.

Bourbon barrel aroma gives off subtle vanilla notes and an earthy woodiness that aligns nicely with some roasted nuttiness, dark chocolate, and caramelized brown sugar. Taste is really similar to the nose with chocolate, caramelized sugar sweetness, charcoal roastiness, smokey cedar flavor, and vanilla all rounded by well integrated bourbon notes. Big and balanced. A silky smooth medium/full body with a perfect carbonation level that lets the intense flavors open up with each sip. Bourbon flavor is definitely present, but there is no alcohol heat. The balance on this beer is really great and while it's a bigger beer, it's really easy to drink. I wish I had more.
