On tap at the Cock N Bull in Sarasota. Poured into a 12oz glass. Pours a hazy brown with a foamy fluffy head that leaves a small bit of lace on the glass. Smell is of dark chocolate with hints of coffee, a slight hint of fruit as well. Taste is spot on Maduro that rich chocolate flavor with a slight taste of Blueberry thrown in, not over powering but smooth and dry finish. Overall not my favorite offering from Cigar City but a slight difference to an amazing beer.

The third in the series of growlers I went through the other night. I was curious to see how this treatment would hold up. Served chilled and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 02/19/2010.

The pour was typical good for Maduro, Rich dark brown in color with a nice tight head of tan that was about two inches in height. Settles down with nice lacing down the sides of the glass and a rich and broken, rocky appearence. Aroma is dark chocolate, hints of coffee, the slightest bit of a fruit note. Light tobacco as well as it warms, but not overwhelming in the fruit character. Smooth, rich, creamy taste, especially for a brown ale. Rich chocolate and light blueberry flavors coming through now, more fruit on the finish then anywhere else as the primary flavor here is chocolate and tobacco. Smooth, rich and easy to drink, I had no issue at all with throwing this one down.

Overall while not my favorite treatment, it was defintily drinkable and very good. Would do this one in a second.

Had on tap at the Fruit in the Room event.

Poured out looking like a darker version of Maduro Brown Ale. It smells like Maduro with a hint of blueberry. The blueberry is very subdued. Fortunately, Maduro Brown is an excellent brown ale so it carries this beer and is extremely drinkable. There is a slight sweet blueberry taste that lingers after consuming but that's about it. The Blueberries just don't stand out.

On-tap at CCB's Fruit in the Room event

This beer is not substantially different from regular Maduro. The blueberry treatment potentially increased the already-present dark fruity element of the malt. Maduro is quite delicious in all of it's variations, but this one really sounds like it would be quite special; unfortunately the blueberry just doesn't stand out.

Growler poured into my CCB tulip.

A: Deep brown color, with, and I'm serious, a little blue around the edges. The pour produced one and a half fingers of wet sand colored head that receded and left some good looking lace.

A: Very similer to the regular Maduro. I get the nice chocolate and roasty malts and just a hint of blueberry sweetness.

T: The blueberry is not overwhelming, infact it is very subtle. This tastes very much like the regular Maduro with just a hint of the fruit on the back end.

M: It is almost if they used more oatmeal in this treatment. It is slightly thicker on the palate than the base beer, but the carbonation is there.

D and overall impression: Drinkability is just as good as the other Maduros. Overall pretty solid treatment. Maybe the blueberry could have been a little more pronounced, but this is a fine beer. If they ever make it again, I'll pick it up. Skal.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Pours a dark blackish brown hue with a nice tall creamy head. Nice retention and some lace.

S: Just the aromas of regular maduro. Chocolate and coffee mostly with hints of malty sweetness.

T: Flavor mostly regular maduro. There is a hint of earthy sweetness not found in regular maduro which must be the result of the berries. No real blueberry flavor though.

M: Medium in body, smooth slick mouthfeel.

D: Pretty good, not much different than the regular maduro.
