Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

Look is virtually identical to regular Jai Alai but with a smaller head.
Smell is more subdued, but citrus & juicy hop aromas still dominate. Vanilla and oak lay more in the background.
Less carbonation than regular Jai Alai, but a smoother and drier mouthfeel.
Hop bitterness is mellowed and the oak and vanilla flavors do add some complexity.
Nice execution and enjoyable, however I prefer the regular version a bit more.

I really liked the base and this is a nice addition. Nice oak and sweetness.

Regular Jai Alai is nearly a perfect beer and this version is even a bit better and more complex. It's just hard to find outside of the brewery (and even there it's not on tap very often).

A cool take on an already good beer. Additional barrel character and sweeter notes on the palate make this a refreshing product.

The highlight of this beer is that it eliminates the necessity to have to have Jai Alai super fresh.

A 12 fl oz can with a canned on date of 17th November 2015 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Appearance: It poured a clear golden orange colour with a two finger white head with lots of stringy lacing.

Aroma: Tropical mango, pineapple and peach with some citrus grapefruit followed by hints of vanilla and dill.

Taste: Strong vanilla and oak upfront with mango and peach supporting and hints of grapefruit.

Mouthfeel: Dry, medium bodied with light carbonation.

Overall: I have not tried the original base IPA yet as I haven’t been able to get my hands on any. However, although this is not the first barrel aged IPA that I’ve tried, I haven’t tasted any beer like this one before. The tropical fruit taste mixed with vanilla was interesting and a refreshing change.

Enjoy the regular Jai Alai a tad bit better, but the white oak does seem to mellow out the bitterness a tad, which allows for a smoother finish and a (very) slight oak/vanilla taste on the back end. Wasn't picking up much from the smell (maybe a slight hint of the white oak/vanilla), color is a tad bit lighter than the regular.

Overall a great beer, but like I said I prefer the regular, just for the extra citrus/pine you get from the full hit of hops.

Look: Deep golden color; slightly hazy. Pours with a small 1/2 finger white head that dies down leaving a smooth thin layer of foam of the surface if the beer. Lots of small bubbles present.

Smell: Lots of citrus (bold grapefruit, mild lemon); very mild hoppy aroma. Appealing; made me want to take a drink.

Taste: Loads of citrus. Starts off with a bold blend of grapefruit and oranges; progresses to a slightly tart lemon flavor ending with an extremely mild and sightly bitter hoppy finish. Delicious! Perfect.

Feel: Medium body. Smooth, velvety feel; slight tingle from the carbonation; extremely mild dry finish. Perfect.

Overall: Flavorful IPA; absolutely delicious. Refreshing. I could drink this IPA over and over! One of the best ever for me.

Canned November 17, 2015. Enjoyed in a stemless snifter.

Look - Darker, hazier orange than the regular version. A solid finger of medium bubbled head. Lacing is great. Head settles to more than a ring.

Smell - Vanilla. Orange, Citrus. Bread. Bubblegum.

Taste - Bubblegum. Vanilla. Orange. Not a strong flavor. Pine.

Feel - Flat compared to head. Watery. Dries up in the tongue.

So much better from last year (2015) to his year (2016). Last year (on draft in the taproom) the oak was just way too overpowering. Much more cohesive product this year. Same great Jai Alai, but slightly mellowed with (now) a pleasant oakiness added to the mix.
