Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

Poured from a 12 oz an into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy medium copper pour. 1.5 fingers of off-white head. Spotty lacing.

S: Vanilla and hops... oak and citrus.

T/F: Caramel malts and bitter hops. Citrus and pine. Nice grapefruit... strong oak character with definite vanilla and faint spice. Smooth and creamy in mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Finish is mildly sweet and citrusy.

O: Very nice barrel aged IPA. Kept the hop bitterness with some great barrel character. Really enjoyed this beer.

Can dated 3/20:
Fairly clear dark golden, leaning brown on the hue more than orange. Head has a nice rim that provides some lacing, but head overall loses Point for being sparse in a nucleated glass.

Nose is what you'd expect, though heavier onthe oak at this point. Had this before where I don't recall the date and similarly don't recall the oak this much. There's a little citrusy spritz in there with a supporting pine note, too.

I am really enjoying the flavor on this can, but last six pack I left the last two fir the GF. So I'm gonna sit at 4, and adjust up if the next one stays as good as this one. A oak mixes with grassy to grapefruit rind bitterness, right up front and producing a flavor similar to the coconut-grass I get from certain hops (similar to Sorachi without the lemon). Citrus takes the middle, grapefruit heavier than tangerine or lemon. Vanilla rides under the radar until the end where it joins a green pine lingering bitterness.

Light, encouraging carbonation lets the beer easily roll over the tongue without getting in the way of the flavors.

I am awaiting on more can like this to knock my overall up a notch. This might be a beer that is awesome fresh but doesn't hold up well, givenmy last experience. Since I'm not sure which is more representative, I'll wait to be more definitive before adjusting.

The body of this beer sported a typical IPA color of peachy amber with the ample carbonation feeding a two finger thick head. The aroma was citric, herbal, and floral, with a touch of vanilla. The taste was a classic IPA with grapefruit, caramel, and apricots. The oak aging was very subtle, adding toasty and vanilla accents that were in more of a supportive role rather than the stars of the show. The body was light, crisp, and very drinkable.

Citrus and hoppy goodness...the oak barrel aging really smoothes it out and seems to add some smoky vanilla overtones. Excellent and not easy to find.

Lightly weathered copper orange in color with a heavy haze. Poured with a short, soapy, white foam with moderate retention. Medium, mellow over-ripe citrus orange and earthy, resinous hop aromas with notes of vanilla. Medium light malt aromas. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation and a light creamy feel. Pleasant, light warmth from the middle to the end. Flavors are similar to aromas. Over-ripe citrus orange and earthy, resinous hop flavors up front with smooth, mellow vanilla notes. Medium high, biting hop bitterness in the middle. Citrus orange and vanilla flavors from the middle to the end. Finished dryly with mellow vanilla flavor followed by light lingering bitterness. Well balanced, hop centric and easy drinking. Oak aging gives this already great beer a mellow smoothness that's amazing.

L: Poured a vibrant golden-amber color with a steady finger's worth of off-white head. There are some bubbles streaming up the glass and the beers is not very translucent.

S: Fresh fruit, piney resin, pineapple, mango, and maybe a little bit of orange as well. The oak comes through subtly but enough for me to pick it up.

T: Definitely getting a lot of piney flavors in this one. Starts off a little bitter and finishes smoothly with good fruity sweetness. Mildly boozy considering the style, but refreshing nonetheless.

F: Excellent body on this one. Starts sticky, continues with good medium body, and finishes with a bit of alcohol burn. Leaves me mouth with that sticky, piney feeling afterwards.

O: I have had regular Jai Alai several times before and found it slightly more enjoyable, but this is great either way.

-aged on white oak. can to spiegelau ipa glass. canned 11.10.16. consumed 01.30.16.

A: Dark orange, glassy reflection, with a fevish pitch of macro-effervesce within. Dull off white head had a frumpy head and a foamy texture one finger standing with a good rate of resilience.

S: Fresh wet tangerine and pineapple first on nose. White grapes, fresh citrus, wet, with fruit juices. Good level of intention finishing off with some fresh wet grass and soft apple-pear hints. Nicely complex, soft subtitles.

T: Fresh burst of citrusy-pine and tropical hops right from the start flavor wise. Toasted sweet backing of caramelized grains, lightly dry, with highlights of tropical fruit hops and piney-grass drying. Lightly smoked oak finish with some lighlty dry tangerine peel.

M: Edgy carbonation factor, toasted malt feel, medium body, with a lightly creamy texture.

O: A great ipa with white oak influences. Bright hops and burst of tropical flavors with a dryn finish. Hard to go wrong here.
