Can dated 03/22/16 into a tulip glass. Pours a very dark amber/copperish brown with 1+ finger of variable density tan head that left sporadic lacing. Lots of caramel malt in the nose, due to the age there wasn't much aroma from the hops. Taste is on the sweeter side and a bit bready, definitely more malt forward (possibly due to age) but still some nice hop presence. Mouthfeel was very smooth and drinkable, carbonation medium, and a bit of sweetness lingered on the finish. I'd love to revisit this beer when fresh, I bet it's delicious and I love a good hoppy red.

Normally red ales are just not my jam, but this one was very palatable and easy to drink. It was pretty malty, but did have a very nice sweet finish.

I think that this CAN may have come to me courtesy of my local, in-person trader, tone77, who always hooks me up nicely on his visits. The CANQuest (tm) abides.

From the CAN: "Drink fresh! Do not age! Pour gently into a glass."; "The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500's. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida. Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you [CAN] see Tampa Bay as they did."; "Graphic design by Eric Swanson. Recipe by Tim Ogden."

I love the auditory nature of the Crack! It always does wonders for my mood, but I feel like a gentle Glug today, with gainful employment beginning just a week from today. It has been a good ride & I have certainly plowed through a lot of beer, like this one. Onward! An in-glass swirl raised a finger of foamy, frothy, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was a pretty Copper-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very bready with a smell like CANdied fruits, adding up to fruitcake! Cool. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. The taste was a bit more bitter than the nose had led me to expect. It was kind of like citrus rind or peel as opposed to actual fruit. I am not CANplaining as I like that type of bitterness, but it was unexpected. Finish was bready, doughy, slightly bitter, adding up to semi-sweet. I stand by my initial thoughts of fruitcake. Mmmm.
