Florida CrackerFlorida Cracker
Notes: The Cracker Cowboys of Florida were colonial-era settlers, often of Scots-Irish descent, who arrived in Florida when Spain traded their territory of La Florida to the English. The term Cracker in Florida usage relates to the whip these "cow hunters" used to herd cattle in Florida's Palmetto Prairies. Called Quaqueros by the Spanish, these hardy and hard working Cracker Cowboys helped to shape the history of Florida, the nation’s oldest cattle raising state. We brew Florida Cracker White Ale with unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander and then ferment it with a Belgian yeast strain to give it a spicy and dry finish. Perfect for a warm day on the Palmetto Prairie.

Poured into a Spiegelau American Wheat glass. Canned 10/02/15. I must have done something right in a former life because I can't believe I live so close to a brewery that has some of the best brews in America. This one is right up there with the Hotter than Helles and Jai Lai IPA as top examples of their styles. The taste, color, and feel are excellent, the hint of orange mixed with coriander is a cool Florida twist on this classic style.

Florida Cracker boasts an excellent quickening to succeed a rollicking first foam; it then retains this effervescence quite well. As the mist settles, a resplendent white-gold hue asserts itself, barely turbid and beaming of burnished flax. From this arises a bright nose, full of orange-flower, coriander, a bit of lime-zest, and even a touch of clove, perhaps. The spicy portent, however, is washed a way in the mouth by a juicy, highly drinkable complex of flavors, with dry, sunny wheat, orangey tartness, and delicate alpha-acid biters pervading.

This is a very refreshing, balanced wheat beer, with a much-appreciated soft-touch on the spices notes; a bubbly, scaled-back body that separates it from and renders it more high-summer (read: hot & humid) sessionable than many wits; and a very clean finish that quenches the thirsty palate without any thickening or excessive bread to benumb its restorative qualities.

I'm an avid fan of Belgian style wheat beer as well as German wheat beer.
Although I found it a bit of a challenge to remove the cans from the plastic carrier,
Florida Cracker Belgian style ale is probably the best US made wheat beer that I've had to date!

Pours an opaque straw yellow with a creamy/foamy head. Smell is reminiscent of fresh cut grass, moist earth, fresh dough. Taste is very delicate with flavors of lemon, coriander, fresh bread. Feels refreshing and crisp with a medium finish. Overall this a fine example of wit bier. Well done
