On tap at CCB, in a snifter. Part of an impromptu tasting, which included this, Hopped-Up Johnnie, and Abyss '10 (as a point of reference).

A - Black as midnight, thick and viscous like the sludge at the bottom of your oil pan. Just how I like it. Not much in the way of head on the first pour, but the second had a substantial inch-plus of mocha-colored froth, and it stuck to the sides of the glass like its life depended on it (and it did).

S - Plenty of roasty espresso in the nose. My neighbor (at the bar) thought it was too much, but I love big smack-me-in-the-face coffee in my beer sometimes. This worked well with the chocolate and vanilla. Brownie batter, chocolate cookies, you name it. Great smells all over the place.

T - Wow, this is fantastic -- almost as good as its predecessor (Final Push). The espresso isn't quite as strong as the aroma predicted, but it's definitely holding its own, and the vanilla and chocolate really come forward, balancing things out. It starts out sugary and then finishes more dry. Beershake is the best descriptor I've heard for it. Very smooth with nothing really jumping out too much. Outstanding.

M - Thick and milkshake-y, with just enough carbonation to keep it from being too slick and/or oily. CCB really nails these types of beers for me.

O - I loved this beer, so much that I'm thinking of going back today just to see if any is left. It was definitely the best of the three I had that day. There are only a few beers in this genre that I've enjoyed more to date, and not surprisingly they're related -- Final Push and Rare DOS.

O-a nice variant but not as robust for me as the BB version. A little light on the vanilla. Very close to standard MZ with a bit more toasty, coffee flavor.

Reviewed on draft 3/27/17.

A: Dark, thick, black, oily. Two fingers of cinnamon-/mocha-colored head. Ominous.

S: Bitter cocoa nibs, lotsa roasted malts, and a healthy dose of earthy Noble hops. Hint of pepper skin, some leather, more molasses. Big nose, pops out of the glass.

T: Very different from the taste.. Huge milk chocolate, medium- to dark-roast coffee, and a great vanilla finish. Chocolate fudge punches you in the face on the frontend, along with some roasted malt / coffee. Mid-palate is where it gets more complex, with the appearance of molasses and some licorice quickly followed by a gentle kiss of vanilla (that fades rather quickly as it warms). Very fudgy and dessert-y, but the roastiness of the malt and bitterness of the hops balance the sweetness quite well.

M: Thick. Rich. Fudgy. Coats the mouth and sticks to everything it touches. Quite sweet, but with a healthy dose of bitterness to offer some balance. Did I mention this was rich?

O: Very good coffee/cocoa/vanilla RIS that fails to fall into any of the typical traps that these adjuncts stouts tend to.. There's a lot going on here, but it's all somewhat balanced, with no single component overwhelming the others. The distance between the nose and the taste is odd, but I'm not totally offended by it. The mouthfeel is ridiculous, on par with some of the thickest imperial stouts I've had. Overall, if they could dial in that nose a bit more, this would be ridiculous. But as it stands, it's a great beer worth seeking out for sure.

Kinda pricey but I got one anyway and am glad I did. I think I still like the "just" MZukov a tad better but this has some nice flavor add ins.

Dark ebony brew, with a dark brown head with fantastic strength and retention.

Coffee and roast on the nose, restrained and inviting.

Coffee, vanilla, and chocolate on the palate. A touch of alcohol heat up front, but smooth roast from there. Nice level of char, present without dominating.

Hazelnut kiss on the finish well after you're expecting anything new from this beer. Fleeting notes of vanilla and roast.

Nice thick and sticky feel.

Fantastic beer!

On tap at Hunahpu Day. Served in a wine glass.

Appearance - As always from Zhukov, black and inky. Stains the glass. Mocha head.

Smell - Coffee. Sweet and rich. Molasses and booze.

Taste - Coffee dominates and cuts out some of the flavors that I don't love about Zhukov. It's still sweet, but doesn't seem as cloying. Hefty chocolate and molasses, but the roast of the coffee cuts it.

Mouthfeel - Heavy. Sweet. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Delicious. No line for this at Hunahpu Day. Went back for it multiple times.

L: Pours a mean black motor oil into the glass with a thick rusty head - reminds me of Mornin' Delight with such a pretty pour
S: Fresh roasted coffee, vanilla bean, and a slight trace of hazelnut
T: A fierce shot of French Roast coffee and espresso up front that is lightened a bit by simple notes of dark chocolate bars, vanilla, and cane sugar
F: Surprisingly thick for a non-BA stout - well carbed as well
O: This stout took me by surprise. I've heard great things about the base beer, but this variant (or variant of a variant as some folks like to say) was a full on force to be reckoned with - this beer is a coffee lover's dream! What I love the most about the beer was how well integrated the bold coffee and mocha flavors were with the supporting cast of vanilla bean, dark chocolate, and 'creamer'. Just a very well done coffee stout with a delightfully thick body and flavor complexity.

8/12/11. Growler shared pre-GTMW. Pitch black pour with a touch of brown head that fades a ring and laces sparsley. Robust coffee aroma with a bit of sweet and a touch of sour. Rich, sweet flavor with huge lingering coffee and a touch of tart... not bad!
