Served in a Hunahpu's snifter.

Pours near black with a very dark brown head and decent retention. Some spotty lacing and a thin collar as the beer goes down.

The nose carries some beautiful notes of wood and spice. The whiskey, oak, and base-beer chili peppers really combine into a mesmerizing melange of depth. Really, really impressive. My favorite nose on a Hunahpu's variant to date. The flavor isn't quite as integrated and the whiskey takes over a bit more, but the cinnamon and heat follow through the finish. Touch of vanilla and chocolate.

Overall, a really fantastic beer that I was thrilled to try. Hunahpu's itself is my favorite stout, and this somehow improved on the already-decadent nose.

On tap at Hunahpu Day 2012. Served in a Hunahpu snifter.

Pours an opaque near black with a thin, dark brown head with decent retention and some sticky legs of lacing. Aroma is an enticing blend of spice and cinnamon, with wood and light oak, and subtle whiskey and vanilla. Flavor is a little tannin and oak heavy, but carries the typical Hunahpu chile and vanilla with a soft whiskey and chocolate finish. Syrupy, medium thick body, low carbonation and very chewy. Enjoyed this a lot more than some of the other Hunahpu variants, though not as much as Larids.

Not sure why no one has reviewed this beer yet. This was on draft at Hunahpu's day this year, served in a Hunahpu's snifter because I could. That's right. Also served side by side with this years Hunahpu's.

Beer is black with a thin brown head, small bubbles, some lacing, low carbonation, this is in stark contrast with the regular hunahpu's on draft this year with was a little over carbonated and quite heady.

Aroma is sweet, oaky, liquor, mild cinnamon, mild spice, mostly booze and alcohol.

Beer is medium to big in body, a little thick but thinner on the front with a nice sweetness, finishing with a mild bitterness from roast and a little tannic character, the liquor component in this one is present but not as dominant as some of the variants I've had, ultimately it gives you that character without destroying the base beer. Compared to this year's hunahpu's the cinnamon and spice character are quite faded, as are the chiles. I can still taste them but they are a shadow. A good barrel aged stout for sure but not my favorite out of all of them.
