InvasionInvasion
Notes: The people of Tampa Bay have fallen prey to Pirate invasion every year for well over 100 years. After more than a century of failing to repel these seafaring raiders in their anachronistic wooden ships, despite access to modern sea, land and air arsenals that ostensibly should make short work of wind powered vessels equipped with naught but cast iron cannons and raging scurvy, it occurred to the folks of Cigar City Brewing that if you can’t beat them start saying Arrrr Matey! And so we have brewed Invasion Pale Ale. With tropical notes of mango and tangerine imparted by Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this crisp and sessionable Pale Ale is a perfect companion for long days of marauding, pillaging, and pirating.

Invasion is a really nice, smooth and drinkable beer. It is very hop forward, and finishes clean with a touch of malt. A very good beer to give to your friends who aren't big into craft beer, as the taste is just familiar enough to them that they won't be scared away.

Drank a 6 pack of this while at the beach recently. Bright, fruity aroma with lots of citrus and pale malt. Very balanced with lots of flavor, though not what Jai Alai is. Nothing bad to note about this one. A great summer/beach beer.

Nice American pale ale. Kind of like an IPA with the hops ever so slightly turned down. The color is just slightly darker than a standard lager. The west coast hops in the smell is subtle enough to differentiate, but not by much. The flavor starts with malt but very quickly goes to the hops. Not sure what variety, but in addition to the citrusy notes it's almost a little grassy. I wouldn't drink all night, but a fine beer I would definitely have again

12 oz can. Pours hazy golden with a long lasting, foamy, white head. Aroma is of citrusy hops, orange marmalade and caramel malt. Body is full and tangy. Taste is of citrusy hops, pumpkin seeds, caramel and bready malt, ripe fruit. Finish is long, grapefruity. I expected more of this brew.

From the can it pours a nice looking golden amber color. Foamy head eventually recedes into a frothy cap and collar that leaves some semi sticky lace.
In the nose, there is a nice helping of tropical fruit and citrus and dank hops, along with hints of floral, perfume and leafy aromas. Very inviting.
In the taste, the tropical fruit flavors along with a grapefruit zest hit the tongue. However, the palate becomes considerably drier as the drink progresses. A hops forward pale ale; semi sharp pine, subtle prickliness, and with a lovely mild to moderate bitterness that is just right and coexists beautifully with the juiciness.
Smooth, gently carbonated, medium bodied but light on its toes.
Delicious and flavorful. A real delight. I can't believe it's scores aren't higher.

Sampled from a 12oz can purchased at the New Leaf Market in Tallahassee.

Light golden with a slight haze and a small white head. A citrusy aroma with a taste that follows. Not outrageously hoppy or bitter but not quite balanced either. Very refreshing. A moderate mouthfeel and a well behaved carbonation.

A very nice pale ale that works well with the Florida weather.

Pours golden orangish yellowish with a dirty white head. Aroma is tropical with some guava, passion fruit, and mango and a pretty light toasted grains foundation. Flavor follows suit with more of the toasted grains presence than was found in aroma and some piney bitternerss. A crisp, active mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great APA and right on par with their Jai Alai IPA, IMO. Need to drink both of these side by side to see which of the 2 I actually prefer. Topping things off, this beer is over 2 months old and still going strong.

My rating: 4.25

On draft, pours a straw golden yellow; decent carbonation, with good head retention.

The nose is wheat, hay, alot of earthy floral hops. A little bit of lemon and caramel add some zest and sweetness. The flavor is muted and mild compared to the nose. Alot of lemon, green tea. The finish is a little creamy, but very clean, just a tad bit of sweetness on the very end.

This smells great, but it doesn't taste as good as it smells, which is disappointing.

Great beer. Ridiculously citrusy on the tongue and nose. Crazy how much citrus you get out of this pale ale. Fantastic drinkable beer which is a contender for a "go-to" beer.

-can. Spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Bright pumpkin orange, small haze, but otherwise distinguishable clarity with a healthy carbonation factor filling the vessel. Foamy potato white head, one inch, steady retention, leaving patchy lacing of moderate coverage.

S: Nose of wet citrus juice, grapefruit-orange combination, good awareness followed by a soft, flowery grapefruit hopping. Lightly tart lemon, deeper in with some pilsner grain and straw notes once the hoppiness passes.

T: Hoppy, semi-dry grapefruit pulp, flowery lightly dry citrus with a sharp and crisp delivery. Lightly crisp pale malting, lightly tart lemon wedge. Bit of orange flowery hops linger shortly thereafter. Light mention of semi-dry tropical fruit hard to pinpoint.

M: Very crisp mouthful, sharp, light bodied, smoothly textured with some bubbly and flowery texture around the tongues edges. very well suited per style.

O: Very good hopping levels per style, love the light crisp pale malts with no speciality grain interference making this a crisp, aptly named pale ale along with its carbonation rate which is sharp and spot on. Very good drinkability rate, feels i could easily pound a sixer of this on a hot summer day with little resistence. A pale just as i like it, pale malting, light-bodied, crisp, balanced, and well hopped. Enjoyable to the last sip and an easy 4.0 outstanding rating all around. 5%abv with a 36 i.b.u. that tastes much bigger, almost ipa levels, that goes down like session material, but much fuller flavor wise.
