Single can copped at Quinn's in Marco Island. Pours an amber hue with moderate frothing. Strong citrus aroma. Flavor is all grapefruit with hints of lemon and a formidable hop presence. Well balanced and easily drinkable. Recommended.

From the bottom of the can: "CANNED 07/28/16 HECHO A MANO 9125"

Appearance: Mostly transparent medium straw colored body with just a touch of haze and some hints of orange when held to the light. Fantastic rocky and fluffy pure white head that has great retention and lacing.

Aroma: I can smell the hops from my seat after pouring the beer. Closer inspection reveals an immensely fresh hop aroma. It actually smells like fresh hops. The aroma is a bit catty at first but the more I smell it the more that fades away and these peach and apricot aromas come through. It is perfect.

Taste: The flavor profile of this beer is very low key. There is a bit of a fresh grain flavor which is nice. There is a touch of a cedar hop flavor but it is more present in the aftertaste than while drinking. A bit grassy tasting.

Mouthfeel: It is a wet feeling beer with low bitterness and not much texture on the palate. It has good carbonation and it is very drinkable.

Overall: It is a bit of a mixed bag. The aroma and appearance of the beer are spot on but the flavor, while nice, feels a bit empty. It is full of fresh hop aromatics but not much is going on in the flavor department. It is still an excellent beer and it is enjoyable but it doesn't feel complete. The amazing aroma pulls this beer forward and makes it a good enough beer that i would drink it again and would also recommend it but I would caveat that there should be the expectation of a fairly low key flavor profile. I am enjoying this beer at just over two weeks past canning so I can recommend it up to that point.

Can dated 7/28:
Follow up: this beer seems to grow into its juiciness with a couple weeks on it.

Mostly clear orange-tinged light golden. Head is decent on pour, and remains in a ring and some spit atop the surface. Lacing is tight spiderwebs.

Nose is actually a little malty to me. I get a nice crackery note - like a heavier cracker more than a wafer, think more Ritz than Carr's. There's a very light something - not funk, not vegtal, really not floral - but somehow a vague amalgam of all of those things.

Flavor is almost perfectly balanced. There is a citrus aspect to it to me, and it seems to float atop the beer. Somewhat orange-like, there is also a hint of pineapple in there. It evolves to a ruby red grapefruit bitter citrus note. There is a light malty sweetness that sits beneath the liquid that flows nicely and easily over my palate. This sweetness starts up front, and rolls to the end, and never seems to grow or dissipate relative to the other notes. This has a medium body, but with a watery texture, though a bitter aftertaste does build up.

I appreciated this more and more for its balance while still having some flavors to note. I will say if I weren't analyzing it closely, I could miss these nuances. I think it speaks to that balance I get (and keep mentioning).

12oz can dated 3/25/16 poured into a pint glass
A: Pale orange with a 1.5 finger head
S: Tons of citrus- orange, tangerine, a bit of grapefruit. A light earthiness on the backend
T: Matches the nose but not quite as intense. Mostly citrus, a bit of earth and some malts
M: Light bodied, crisp
O: Nice on a hot day. Refreshing, not too heavy, reasonable abv

Loved the Jai Alai from Cigar City so when I traded with a friend last week and saw this in his stash, I was interested in giving this a go. I think the store that had this didn't sell out of it quickly as it had a date of 3/3 on the bottom of the can, so this ended up jumping to the front of my queue. Not sure if I've accustomed to the big, juicy IPA's here in the northeast but if so, that would explain why I found this to be a bit underwhelming and just...plain.

The pour to this was alright as the beer had a golden hue to it with plenty of head that was full of big bubbles and a good amount of thick lacing that was left behind in my pint glass. Lots of pale malt, grass, and citrus flavors in the nose with even more in the taste. Light tangerine, mango, and papaya in the taste with quite the thin mouthfeel. This even tasted a bit sour as the grassy undertone grew during my drinking session. Didn't pick up the toasted or caramel malt that others felt but there was a nice, light floral finish to this as it finished clean, without a lot of carbonation to scrub everything down.

The alcohol was perfect as this would be an textbook example of what a session beer should be. While not weak or terribly light, some more carbonation, malt, and a hint of stone fruit would have made this great. As it was, it was an enjoyable beer that was great for summer and would be something I'd reach for if I ever made my way back down to the Sunshine State. Fun stuff that's a refreshing alternative to a West Coast version.

Hazy yellow to orange, half in head
Piney, malty smell. Spicy, citrusy
Honey, melon, pear, pine. Not as citrusy as the nose
Lightly carbonated, smooth feel
A refreshing and interesting beer, perfect for summer. Sweet but not in a floral/citrus way, more in a woody melon-y way

T - Smooth malt character comes through. Not much in the way of hops though

F - I always fumble here. Light, crisp w/ a nice finish

O - Solid beer

Pours a hazy, pale, orange with a thin, white head and good carbonation. Smells of wonderful, tropical hops. Tastes of tropical hp forward. The bitter hop resonates, which creates more emphasis on the hop. This is the way I like it. Candied fruit taste is also present. A very refreshing APA!

Pours clear, gold in color, with 1/4 inch head. Taste is citrus--tangerine and orange, grass, and pale malt. Tasty above average pale ale. Not one I would rush out for, but not one I would pass over either.

Nice American pale ale. Kind of like an IPA with the hops ever so slightly turned down. The color is just slightly darker than a standard lager. The west coast hops in the smell is subtle enough to differentiate, but not by much. The flavor starts with malt but very quickly goes to the hops. Not sure what variety, but in addition to the citrusy notes it's almost a little grassy. I wouldn't drink all night, but a fine beer I would definitely have again

Poured from a 12oz into a Newcastle Ale glass.

Look is a lightly amber yellow with a white one inch frothy head.

Light biscuit malt aroma with an herbal grassy hop note.

Mouthfeel is light. Malt is present like a lightly toasted white bread balanced by herbal bitter hops.

Overall the beer is a perfect session drinker. Light bodied with a nice balanced hop malt flavor. I could see drinking a lot of this on a beach.

Tasted this evening on tap at M.E.A.T. in Isla Morada while visiting my parents at their winter home. Served in a pint glass with fading head. I liked the reddish gold color and grapefruit smothered nose.

I agree with the previous tasters that this resembles a IPA as much if not more than a pale ale proper. The hopping is mild but tasty, and for me, well balanced. Some toasty bread malts make this a little bit like an English style IPA.

Overall, I was very pleased with my selection and would definitely look for this again. I know the Jai Alai has a good reputation but I see this as eminently more sessionable and mellow.

Drank a 6 pack of this while at the beach recently. Bright, fruity aroma with lots of citrus and pale malt. Very balanced with lots of flavor, though not what Jai Alai is. Nothing bad to note about this one. A great summer/beach beer.

Citrus hop aroma. Slight haze. Solid pale ale but could be a little more balanced on the malt side. Nice gold color not too light. Feels like a light ipa. Mouthful is nice but again a little more malt character would benefit this beer all in all pleasant tropical and worth 4 or 5 of them.

An awesome, light, crisp hoppy beer, perfect for hot florida days. If Jai Alai comes off as a bit strong for you, this one will probably provide the right balance. Even if Jai Alai is the perfect warm weather treat for you, I still think you should try this one.

Clear reddish copper with a moderate off-white head.

Immediately upon opening and pouring, I got a nice, fresh, zippy whiff of red apple. The folks I was drinking this with agreed once I said it aloud.

The aroma of red apple does not translate well to the flavor, as it is mostly becomes a bready malty lager with a very minor kick of hop, and maybe after a little while, a slight bitter touch of apple peel.

Crisp and bubbly, a touch heftier than a light beer.

Appearance - light copper in color, very nice retention. Smell - not getting a whole lot. Probably citrus and hops and slight pine. Taste - some citrus and mild hops, smooth. Overall - not a bad beer. Not great though. But solid. Girlfriend says it smells horrible but tastes ok.

Great beer. Ridiculously citrusy on the tongue and nose. Crazy how much citrus you get out of this pale ale. Fantastic drinkable beer which is a contender for a "go-to" beer.

The first Cigar City offering I was not overly fond of. Right out of the can it pours a nice thick head, but with absolutely no staying power or lacing. The amber color from the brew was completely unappealing it was the first disappointment I was faced with. I did, however, enjoy the complexity of scents - citrus, some cardamon, a tiny bit of cinnamon, all mixing well with the hoppy aroma. Speaking of the hops - it was more IPA and pale ale - way more. Even so, the mix of citrus and hops did make it quite drinkable as I downed the first one relatively quick. It was a bit too carbonated for my taste and sadly it was the first of now four offerings from Cigar City I walked away disappointed from. Nonetheless, it's a decent brew, and I'm figuring there are others would would think highly of this.

12oz can.

Brassy color and decent retention. Medium bodied and crisp with a fairly tropical and juicy character. Almost sessionable. Low bitterness and fairly dry with a nice fruity backbone.

A nice prelude if a Jai Alai is next up!

S - Citrus floral hops, and nice malty backbone

T - Like the nose, citrus and floral flavors.

F - High in carbonation, medium body

O - A tasty session pale ale, although its 5%. Very tasty and enjoyable

Fairly standard ale from Cigar City. Nothing overly memorable. Low hop presence and light malt flavours. Highly drinkable and worth the try. Canned from somewhere in Naples.

A really well done pale ale, golden color with a slight haze and a tight white foam that disappears quickly. The smell is hop forward dominated by citrus, tropical fruit and light floral with a bit of malt under it. The taste is also full hops with the citrus quality and malt character blending nicely. Its a light easy drinking beer, finishes clean. Overall well done, on the same level as Toppling Goliath's PseudoSue or Karben4's Fantasy Factory.
