A- deep brown with a very thin cream colored head

S- Medium roasted aroma with notes of chocolate

T- light my roasted malts, with small coffee note and a nice chocolate finish

M- Thin, even for a brown ale. Wish it was slightly thicker or fuller to compliment the full flavor

O- the perfect brown ale. Smooth and well balanced. Nice balance of chocolate, toasted malts and a slight coffee note. Not as bitter as chicory really is.

Review from notes. On tap at CCB in July.

A- dark brown with little head and low to medium carbonation.

S- The spicy smell of chicory, cinnamon, and possibly cloves. Roasted malts and chocolate.

T- Smells come through in taste as well. Starts with a little spice, followed by sweetness of chocolate and malt, and ending with more chicory.

M- Just average to me. Kind of on the thin side. For a brown with this much complexity i would want slightly more.

O- a very good brown and one i would like to have on a cold night instead of the ones that often dominate the palate.

First, a note: When I had this on tap, the board listed it as "Chicory Chocolate Brown", with the description "Brown Ale with Peruvian Cocoa Nibs". I'm going to make the assumption it's the same beer, since it seems unlikely that they brewed two separate beers whose descriptions match so closely. But who knows...

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at CCB tasting room. Served in a pint glass.

A: Deep brown, somewhat hazy, with a one-finger tan head and relatively low visible carbonation.

S: Brown roasty malts, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, toffee, nutty. There's an amalgamation of smells here that remind me of Christmas spices, but without the cloying horribleness that accompanies most Christmas beers.

T: Sweet toasty malts, a cinnamon-ish flavor (chicory??), dark bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of salty peanut or walnuts. Some hop bitterness and roast bitterness goes with the cinnamon/chicory, and lingers after the swallow.

M: Body is a bit thin for a brown ale, low alcohol presence, good carbonation.

O: Not bad. Spiced and flavored brown ales don't tend to be my favorite style, but this had enough going on without obnoxious sweetness that I think it worked pretty well.

No head murky brown body, minimal lacing. Aroma is very much milk chocolate with hints if toffee and chicory spice. More chicory spice to the flavor with a strong milk chocolate and chocolate malt base. Simple with little else to this one but still very flavorful and drinkable.
