330ml bottle poured in a chalice.

Yes, we have Double IPA! This is a exciting discover: An Imperial IPA made in Switzerland... :)

A: Orange bit cloudy color (almost amber) with a small to medium beige head. Small retention and not many lacings left
S: Delicious flowery hops as it should be. Caramel malts. Citrus and very fruity smell. No alcohol (good point)
T: Delicious bitterness. Caramel malts. Sweet upfront. Earthy, grassy and citric hops. Fruity: Strawberries mainly. Yeasts. Very bitter: Great taste!
M: Creamy body. Medium to low carbonation. Molasses
D: To a beer with such ABV, I would say that it's "dangerously drinkable". Extremely refreshing. The best Trois Dames I've had so far

A Swiss take on the Double IPA.

Murky rust colored; much darker than your usual IIPA.

Minimal off-white head; almost no lace.

A malt bomb with hints of citrus hops; smells like US barleywine to me.

Medium mouthfeel.

Yup, this is cloying US barleywine sweetness with a hint of hops. All the worst parts of a barleywine.

Drinkable, but that's the nicest thing I can say about it.

From the 11.2 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on December 15, 2012.

It pours a kind of copper-orange color with a slight haze to it and small head.

The aroma is quite forward with barley malts, liquor, and hops.

The body is about medium with a creamy and smooth texture.

At first the taste makes me think of a barleywine because of that powerful malt character but it is followed by a hard liquor character and a fairly lingering hopped finish. This is more like a barleywine than a double hopped style. Not bad but not my thing.

750ml bottle poured into tulip 1/8/12

A dark amber with just a thin film of beige head after a hard pour, just a few polka dots for lace

S sour citrus and heavy toffee and caramel covered apple but again its a little sour, smells very sweet and a little boozy

T some lime rind and pine to go on top of what I smell but not enough too save this one, I can't get over the sour apple notes

M syrupy and flat with a little heat, slightly sticky on the lips and a lousy sour fruit aftertaste

O I wouldn't bother with this one again its just nothing special, hops have faded and replaced with nothing worthy

a 2011 DIPA that just hit the shelves here in Alberta? don't waste the cash on this one

Picked this up in lausanne at la mise en biere. Really great to find this beer as it is a reasonably local brewery here in swtizerland.

Poured form a .33l bottle into a pint glass. Drink before april 2012 so not fresh at all.

Pours a nice hazy orangish on the verge of light brown color. Really nice body, not that typical orange glow color i find in american dipa's but still nice looking on the body. The head was non existent even with a fairly aggressive pour. No retention at all, probably because of the high abc.

Aroma was different, not expected at all. I get mint, not pine on this one. Lots of over ripe orange, maybe over ripe tangerine, touches of honey sweetness and an essence of rotten or overripe melon or citrus fruit.

Taste was not what i expected either but still a nice change of pace from typical DIPA flavors. I get an immediate shot of sweetness, maybe some orange like sweetness with hints of spearmint flaked throughout the initial taste. The mid palate gets the bitterness and the carbonation helps here to reset the palate for the transition to the finish. The finish is sweet and juicy with a nice clean yet refreshing finish. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, really good integration of the alcohol to the beer.

Overall, this would be great fresh IMHO, but getting turnover of swiss microbrewery beers against the heineken and carlsberg brewers here in europe is tough. worth a shot, wish i looked at the best by date before.

Pours a cloudy, orange-like amber with a good off white head.

Smell is predominantly malt with a any hop aroma well-hidden.

Doughy, caramel malt taste with immediate hop bitterness dukes it out with the sweet grain. Only after a few swallows does the alcohol make its presence, but in a quiet way.

Sweetly smooth, heavy-bodied mouthfeel. Nice carbonation adding a soft feel.

Certainly a malt-forward IPA. Whatever hops used must have been more for the bitterness vice the aroma. If this one had a more pronounced hop scent, it would have been easy to bump up the overall score. Still, a fair enough beer and worth several go arounds.

Straight out of central Europe, the fine folks from across the pond are getting their hands into the Americanized imperial IPA game with a rustic and British-cetric variety. Fruit, yeast, earth, and malt all play larger roles than what's normal for American imperial ales.

Pouring a rusty orange hue with a touch of mauve and amber, the densely looking beer separates with a low-lying cap of off white foam. Lighter than usual carbonation limits the fire power for head formation and retention as the foam recedes to a broken film, but somehow allows for nicely interspersed lace.

Aromas of caramel malt, dull fruit, yeast, and earthen woods provide the framework for the nose. Mildly bruised fruits of apricot, peach, apple, and papaya give a rich estery sweetness to accompany the broad earthy character of mint, hop stems, and spice from the hops.

Flavors are very rich with caramel and fruit tones. At medium attenuation, the beer is strikingly British as the dry malt character begins to limit the showcase for hops. Somewhat stemmy, leafy, and tobacco-like the dull bitterness of noble English hops deliver a highly herbal and grassy flavor spread that satisfies the palate with character, but limited refreshment.

Medium bodied, but likely fuller than I typical for even imperial IPAs because of the timid hop presence, the beer retains its weight deep into finish where a minty dryness and slight alcohol warmth sets in. Fruity and herbal in aftertaste, the beer continues to linger well into the next drink.

This uniquely formulated version of imperial IPA shines with a soul of British IPAs brewed to stronger strength but remains very well balanced and firmly structured from nose to finish.

Dark amber with auburn highlights and hazy. A big, two-inch, foamy pastel head lingers before leaving a coating of lace on a pint glass.

Fragrant caramel on opening turns to light citrus, then light pine sap with a cantaloupe background and some coriander.

The flavor is caramel with pine and warms amazingly well for an IPA. There is some toasted bread with modest bitterness and a light, lasting bitter finish.

Full body with soft carbonation and a silky texture which seems unique and welcome for the style. Alcohol is as expected and carries through the finish.

This is a beer made for sitting back while reading but would go well with a meal.

Bottle: Poured a dirty light orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light citrus hops with tired floral aroma is not the most spectacular for the style. Taste is also a mix between some tired floral hoppy notes with some light citrus notes and a dry Belgian style malt backbone. Body is quite full with good carbonation. This one fell a bit flat and definitely missed some hops punch.

Modest head, but it leaves chunky lace. Lots of large clumps of yeast on the initial pour. The broth is very cloudy with an orange-amber color.

This has a dry grainy aroma. Reminds me of breakfast cereal in the box. The hop, floral in nature, is mild.

Excellent "round" full malt flavor on the initial sip. Lightly sweet. The hop bitterness shows up very slowly, but potently. Exceptionally well-balanced for the style. Good body and carbonation. The alcohol does not show up at all despite the 9% ABV.
