This week i brought some beers to my cousing Peter because we are going to have a beertasting at his place with a bunch of newbies into beer.

Peter however has discovered the special beers some time ago, he loves the Pannepot of the Struise.

Anyway...now to this beer! He gave me this bottle and asked me to drink it and give it an honest review, that's what i did. Best before december 2013.

Poured in my Struise glass this beer has the looks, five fingers big bubble head and a cloudy fluid. Very nice carbonation, that's what i like in a beer.

The beers has the same smell like a Duvel but then a bit better. Yeastnotes and some floral scents.

Taste is absolutely superb, there are only very few strong pale ales who will score better than this one!

So Peter, this a beer which is very very good. When you see it...try it.

appearance = golden pour with a great lacy small/medium white head, a bit hazy

smell = fruity - hint of banana, pineapple, mandarins/oranges. Spicy, malty aroma

taste = very sweet fruity citrus start with a bitter finish, personally great combination, considering the ABV, not too overpowering, very pleasant and goes down smooth.

mouthfeel = creamy, great complexity of sweet/sour notes

overall = for a belgian strong, I love the sweetness start with the bitter/sour finish, easy to drink and not overpowering.

On tap at Huyghe into Guillotine glass. Fluffy white head medium retention. High clarity.  Aroma, nice hoppy bouquet, light sweetness. Taste nicely bitter with slight sweetness. Dangerously drinkable.  Very refreshing  No alcohol noted at all. Our guide at the brewery says this is coming to the states soon and also said that the recipe has been tweaked to where they are now very happy with it. Look out. This one is dangerous.

Poured from a bottle into the brewery chalice at the Frigo cafe in Shinjuku Japan. I've never seen this in the USA, not sure why it's in Tokyo but several other people were ordering it too so it's apparently popular.

The appearance was pale and cloudy yellow with a thick poofy white head (similar to Delirium Tremens). The aroma was grassy and funky and also similar to Delirium Tremens. It tasted delicious, almost exactly like one of my favorite beers (Delirium Tremens).

Not really sure why Huyghe makes 2 different beers which are so similar. Maybe someday I'll try them side-by-side and compare for what difference must exist.

L: Dark yellow almost amber with a nice puffy head and a lacing that is beautiful down the side.

S: Extremely coriander, slightly citrusy with a slight sweet smell to it.

T: Super sweet with a slight bitterness from the hops, it also has a little bit of coriander taste to it and almost a little wheaty.

F: Slightly carbinated and has a great feel to it.

O: Actually a pretty amazing beer and would defiantly would have this beer again.

The aroma is pleasantly juicy with orange and lime backed by sweet vanilla and some waxy graininess. It pours a large, soapy, eggshell-white head and a clear, light gold body. The flavor is tart, spicy, and bitter, as well as slightly boozy and grainy sweet with only a hint of fruitiness. It's highly carbonated, frothy, and crisp.

The aroma is more pleasantly expressive than the flavor, while the flavor seems to be dominated by the spicy and bitter qualities with some grainy sweetness in support and fruity esters only on a very low level.

Pour: Golden yellow with a frothy three finger head that dissapated to a one finger head and held on throughout the drink.

Smell: Apricots, belgian yeast, various fruits, slight hint of spice.

Drink: Sour fruit in the front, followed by a mix of apricots and belgian yeast flavor, semi-clean, slightly lingering belgian aftertaste.

Overall: A damn fine beer. Well balanced and quite tasty for the style.

Poured from 11.2oz bottle into Chimay goblet.

A - Hazy medium gold with a creamy, thick, white head.

S - Tart funk, wet straw, woody, citrus, lemony.

T - Sweet malt followed by bitter orange peel, dried apricot, a grassy finish. Definite spicy, yeasty funk.

M - Sharp, stinging carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden.

Complex and interesting. I enjoyed this one.

Veiled golden color with a powerful storm of activity. Thick creamy and super frothy white 5 fingers island cloudy head, lasting more than 20 minutes, creating thick leggings. Flavors of cheese, coriander, banana yeast, strong presence of grains, floral bouquet, some hops, hints of wood and a nice vinous and roasted feel. Some ester fruits like apples, a hint of honey, oaky, grassy, and orangy clove. Pleasant sugary feel yet sharp and bitter. Slick light body with champagne like carbonation. Medium to strong finish of long length, ending with a burned malty tongue coat, hoppy grass feel, warming alcohol, yeasty, barrel aged feel, and fruity grapefruits. Overall this is an outstanding craft with rich delicious yet accessible flavors for the style and strength. Very fresh but the smell is a little rotten yet still pleasant. Incredible quality stuff. Complex, balanced, well intensified, filling, warming, a pleasure to drink.

Another beer that I am happy to have discovered during my stay in a foreign land. Pours a cloudy golden tinge with a small, but impressive looking white head. Loads and loads of sediment were swirling around this beer, as well as a few other darker sediment particles that did not look attractive, but didn't seem to bug me. Smell was excellent, fruit throughout such as cherries, apples, passionfruit, pineapple. There was also a light medicinal smell in there. Taste was amazing, juicy fruit, and sweet sugary honey dominated, with some mild sour trangs coming through as it went towards the back of the palate. It was somewhat syrupy, maybe due to the honey tastes I noticed. As for drinkability, My God if only I had this beer around every night, I would be in sheer bliss. I swear this beer came straight from Hades to tempt us all with its deliciousness. Indulge

A one centimeter white head sits atop a hazy peach colored body. The carbonation is very active, replenishing the head constantly throughout the session.

This beer smells of spice, apples, and mandarins. It is also fuming alcohol slightly.

The taste is smooth. Soon after the carbonated bite subsides, there is pepper, orange rind and medicinal phenols. This makes for a complex balance between sweet and spicy, which is especially pleasing. The alcohol is warming and is very understated. The aftertaste is medicinal and only slightly acidic.

La Guillotine is nothing short of delicate and is clearly a finely crafted beer. To reach this sort of balance whilst maintaining a smooth mouthfeel AND high carbonation is something special to behold.

Fruit and malt on the nose. Pours brilliant orange tinted amber with a vigorous, long lasting, 3” white rocky foam cap. A fruity palate starts with orange, peach, and a hint of banana, spice, light caramel, a touch of bread, pepper and a light bitterness on the finish. Medium body and medium high carbonation. A delight to drink.
