Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Heyoka IPA and Senita IPA

GoneAway is a western charged firecracker. We conjured the classics and then laid them on a bed of pale malt. This India Pale Ale shoots straight to the bitter edge before falling into a mellow haze. Deep gold and ready to travel into the distance.

a real sick ipa, and a real dope brewery. one of those places you should definitely visit while in chicago, quaint but awesome, pumping out a ton of good beers. this is more of a citrusy ipa, with amarillo being the dominant hop, and a pale malt base that doesnt even try to stand up to the intensity of the hops. loving the aroma and the flavor here, clean and bright, summery, but big enough in bitterness and alcohol to be an all season beer. it takes me someplace warmer than chicago thats for sure, or maybe thats my inner warmth lighting up after a couple of them. so often i go to new cities and try some of the local ipa, and am often underwhelmed by generic and sloppy beer, and this one is neither of those. bright and fresh as can be with excellent carbonation. its refreshing and crushable, but sturdy and satisfying too. thats exactly what i look for in the style. well done.

edit: a little less impressive around denver on draft now that its here than it was at the brewery, faded a bit, but still a very solid ipa. best at the source though, as ipa often is!

16 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and lightly grainy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Half Acre Beer Co. "Gone Away IPA"
on tap @ Union Tap House on 9/23/16

Notes: Hazy golden body beneath a short head of bright white that holds fairly well and leaves some decent lacing behind (it might actually be better as I'm drinking from a probably not so clean bar glass). Juicy hop aroma: Tropical/citrusy with mango, apricot, and tangerine with a bit of piney underbrush over a delicate, sweetish malt base. The flavor is not as bold as the aroma suggests, but it's still more complex, bringing in some additional fruit and a bit more pine, as well as a fuller, breadier malt. Solidly bitter but not overwhelming - in balance - and dry in the finish with residual hoppy fruitiness and earthy, resinous pine. Medium bodied and crisp. Overall a decent, brightly juicy IPA that's easy to drink.
