Notes / Commercial Description:
We’ve finalized a new Black Ale for Half Acre.

We can all sit on sun drenched patios and freely spill speed beer down our throats till paid transportation takes us home. You want to squirrel away a couple x-tra pales and head to yoga? No problem, Namaste.

But, there are times when fleshy black beer is the only thing that offers the necessary weight. Visiting your uncle’s machine shop to thread some pipe before hitting a dirt track sprint car race….? You might want to digest some Lead Feather Black Ale.

The might of big malts and rival hop use give Lead Feather capital dark properties. 6% ABV gives you time, but not at the expense of content.

One of my favorite beers. Splits the difference evenly between a porter or stout and a hearty pale or India pale ale. Exceptionally well done by Half Acre.

Consumed 1/11/16

A: Pours a dark, dark brown... okay, black, with some dark brown around the edges - medium-large, creamy tan head, fades to wispy cap, maintains a medium collar, leaves streaks and spots of lacing

S: Roasty and toasty, could probably pass for a light stout - chocolate malts, toasty, lightly burnt - roasty with some hints of coffee - dark chocolate, chocolate malts - burnt caramel, caramel sweetness, and a hint of vanilla - lightly earthy, hint of hops - clean overall

T: Lightly roasted dark chocolate - nicely toasted malts, with some lightly burnt flavors - chocolate malts, dark chocolate, baker's chocolate - roasty with some hints of coffee - medium level of bitterness - lightly hoppy, with some light citrus and some earthy, leafy flavor - caramel malts, caramel, and burnt caramel, but sweetness is low, just a hint of crystal malt-like sweet - dry and clean overall

M: Medium body, smooth, almost creamy, low carbonation, dry

O: Nothing beats the classic flavor of lead

This is a unique take on the "Black Ale" style, which is only a vaguely defined style, at best. This is definitely not a Black IPA. It's more of a stout, really. And stouts are ales, so I guess this is definitely a black ale. At the very least, this is an easy drinking dark beer. It's worth a try.

Pour opaque, black in color with 1/2 inch head. Taste is cocoa, cola, vanilla, and light piney hops. Sweet, medium-heavy bodied, with moderate carbonation. Makes for a light and tasty American black ale. Goes down way to easy. I will get this again.

This very dark beer looks almost black in the glass. I didn't smell much, but it tastes somewhat nutty, a bit like almonds. Overall its a rather unremarkable beer with a mouthfeel that doesn't separate it from the rest, but it is pleasant enough.

The Lead Feather is a solid black ale....very delicious. It poured a opaque black with tan head and lace. The scent had earth and hints of roast. The taste carried peat, and a coffee like roast. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this was a very good beer.

Pours dark, very dark...black ale...well, really dark brown, opaque, little hint of red held up to light. Not much head, kind of dissapointing, little carbonation bubbles dissappeared rather quickly.

Smells malty and roasty, coffee, chocolate, licorice. Good smelling beer.

Taste is a little surprising--yes, there's the roasty malty character you're expecting, but there's also a nice crispness to the finish with some nice hop bitterness. Overall, much lighter in mouthful than you'd expect from such a dark beer. I liked it. Will drink again.

Pours black-brown with slight head and lacing into half-pint glass. Smells of malt, currants, and smoke. tastes of dark malts, currants, smoke, and burnt sugar notes. Feels a touch dry. Not exceptional for the style but not bad. Heavy on the smoke/ roasted malt notes. Not sessionable.

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark brown to nearly black with a large thick off-white head. The aroma is full of malt, coffee, citrus and pine, great aroma. The taste doesn't disappoint, a nice blend of hops, malt with a cool roasted feel. Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. Does Half Acre brew a mediocre beer?
