Notes: Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout brewed with coffee and toasted coconut, a remedy coaxed from the deepest caverns; it's char bound in the systematic sweetness and density only found in the colossal beers of our time.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 10/18/19, had 1/17/20.

Pours a thick looking dark brown, opaque, with a short head and some spotty cling. Aromas of bourbon, coffee, roasted malt, coconut, chocolate, cocoa, raisins, fudge, vanilla. The flavor is similar- bourbon, chocolate, malt, coconut, cocoa, less coffee than the aroma, oak, vanilla. Smooth, a terrific full body, well carbonated.

Excellent. The coffee and coconut show well, and there’s a lot of chocolate, too. Strong barrels as well. This will definitely be on the buy list every year.

Pours black with a massive mocha head that was pretty well retained and left spotty lacing. Smells and tastes of bourbon. Dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla and oak. Additional flavors of figs, caramel, licorice and a hint of lactose sweetness. Only negative to the flavor is a slightly metallic taste on the finish. Full bodied, creamy mouth, light carbonation and a dry finish.

Pours black as night with a sliver of caramel colored head. Some lacing & head retention, viscous as hell

S: Bourbon, chocolate, faint toasty coconut & a little figgyness

T: Follows the nose, some vanilla & coffee notes as well front. Coconut, chocolate & a little coffee comes to the fore as this warms, plus vanilla, & just a kiss of Bourbon. Finishes chocolatey with coconut,a little booze & barrel dryness

MF: Chewy, low carbonation

Upper echelon example of a Bourbon Barrel Aged Imp Stout, the ABV is so stealth

16oz can, date stamped 10/18/19A. 2019, 14% ABV. Pitch black stout is capped by a two-tone brown head that holds great retention and leaves thick, sticky lacing on the glass as it fades. Rich, boozy aroma of bourbon, dark chocolate, coffee, roast, and toasted coconut. Big & bold flavors that meld excellently on the palate: dark cocoa, toasted coconut, roasted barley, boozy bourbon, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, oak, vanilla, and perhaps lactose. Very full and creamy body, booze is present making it a definite sipper, but it's not hot; sweeter peppery finish overall with coconut and dark chocolate lingering. This was nothing short of phenomenal! Glad to find and try a rare treat.

Grabbed a two pack of these 16 oz. cans when they arrived just across the border a couple weeks ago. Nice can art. Looks like Sword of Shannara meets Woodstock meets Stranger Things. Quite a time span.

Black. Mocha head. Nose of bourbon, black licorice, minor coconut.

Benthic puts the thic in thick. The definition of a pastry stout, this coats the mouth with thicc, malty goodness. The coconut is much stronger than in the nose, along with a half-shot of bourbon, cold smooth alcohol, toasted cocoa, with a touch of char right on the end. A sixteen ounce serving is the correct answer.

Oh, the coconut makes me happy. The alcohol makes me happy. This beer makes me a happy guy, & that makes this an excellent brew.

Pours a motor oil brown. Nice, creamy, mocha head.
Strong bourbon and oak smell. Black licorice, caramel, vanilla, almond, slight coffee and coconut also on nose.
Bourbon oak and licorice hits the younger first. Lots of bourbon maple syrup. Good imperial hop. Slight get fudge. Coconut not really rectangle, but smooths our edges. Marshmallow present. A sweet one.
Thick mouthfeel.
A wonderful treat!!

5oz sample at the Balmoral location. Maybe a bit generous for a 5oz pour.

Black with a medium brown head. Smell is stout candy. Roast and sweet. Taste is boozy, very sweet, lots of coffee and anise, and vanilla. Mouthfeel is thick. Overall, good.

Opened a 2018 regular Benthic this past week and it was 100% infected. Sour, horrible, drain pour. I was excited because when I drank one fresh after release it was great. Have notified Half Acre, no response.

I didn't get as much coconut as others, it fades quickly so open as fresh as possible. I got more chocolatey, coffee roast and a touch of bourbon in the moderate body. Nothing outrageous.

Appearance - The beer poured a silky black color with a dark mocha colored head.

Smell - The nose was booze for miles with hints of chocolate.

Taste - Initially, I thought the profile was harsh with alcohol burn. It seemed as though this were aged in rum. The undercurrent was milk chocolate and light coconut. There was a burn toward the back, which overwhelmed the alcohol.

Mouthfeel - Despite the alcohol burn, the beer was fairly smooth.

Overall - I am not sure that I would seek this beer again unless it had some more time on it.

Appearance: Black bodied beer with thin head. This beer pours thick!

Smell: Lots of bourbon, chocolate, and coconut with a hint of coffee.

Taste: Nice rich and sweet stout. Bourbon and milk chocolates are the big flavors of this beer. Supporting cast includes char, oak, leather, tobacco & vanilla. Its light on the coffee though.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied oily stout. Low and adequate carbonation. You don't sense the abv while drinking this barrel aged stout.

Overall: This tastes like a coconut & coffee BCBS varient (original BCBS in the 22oz bomber format). This is easily half acres best beer I have tried.

Undated 22 oz bottle into pint glass. Pours a very dark brown - inky black in the glass. Modest and brief tan head. Initial impression is thick, sweet chocolate, coffee, and oak, gradually yielding to bourbon and molasses. Noticeable alcohol warming. Carbonation is very light. Mouthfeel is smooth and almost oily. Finish is strong on molasses and booze.
I've had numerous IPAs from Half Acre, and they've all been pretty good. Benthic is well outside of the typical HA offering, though. This is an excellent Imperial Stout. I hope that HA will continue to experiment in this arena.

Deep, dark brown pour produces a black body in an over-sized snifter... Despite a center pour, produced next-to-nothing by way of head... Rich aromas of chocolate, bourbon, molasses, vanilla and coffee on the nose... Flavors follow in like kind, sweet with chocolaty coffee and sticky molasses, accentuated by vanilla, sweet bourbon, and hints of chewy coconut... Very rich and sweet, little to no bitterness; full-bodied and a little sticky; otherwise soft and smooth... A real decadent treat...

Released 11/16/18; drank 11/30/18 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small dark tan head; frothy lace.

Cream, light roast coffee bean & dark chocolate notes in the nose.

Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Light roast coffee bean flavors & mild coconut flavors up front; milk chocolate & faint oak notes on the finish. No booze heat.

A dangerously drinkable, balanced imperial stout. Not a life-changer, but a welcome brew any day of the week.

So smooth, and just enough coconut to make it distinct. It is worth the hype and I could imagine overnight lines similar to Bourbon County Stout eventually for this beer.

650ml bottle, 2017 release, poured into a Half Acre holiday snifter glass.

The beer pours a deep jet black color, opaque and thick, viscous with a thin tan head, loose bubbles with little to no retention and no lace. The aroma is bursting with coffee, tons of chocolate, strong charred oak, light whiskey, a hint of coconut and vanilla, smooth grain and light licorice. The flavors are fantastic, bursting with espresso and dark chocolate, smooth grain, loads of charred oak barrel, smooth bourbon, vanilla, coconut, toffee, brown sugar, licorice and lingering stone fruits. The mouthfeel is good, thick heavy body but with pleasantly lively carbonation, lots of bubbles with a soft finish that is lightly warm.

Verdict: A superb barrel aged stout from Half Acre. The coffee is incredibly well presented, luscious and with tons of depth and the barrel character is quite nicely balanced with just a touch of coconut that plays well with the bourbon. Worthy of all the hype, just a stunner of a beer.

Had on tap. Wow I am glad I went out of my way to try this one. So deeply rich, dark and heavy, really sticks to the ribs. Fudge brownie meet boozy coffee drink with coconut, vanilla and almond in the taste. Heavy beer with decent thickness, yet incredibly smooth. Smell is more coffee and semisweet chocolate forward.

Yeah, it's alright.
Black with tan foam, little to no lacing or lasting coverage.
Aroma is roasty with plenty of charred brownie and light bourbon sweetness.
Tastes like charred chocolate brownie crust, toasted almonds, oaky vanilla, vague coconut.
Feels boozy and slightly thin with a harsh astringency and low carbonation.

For all the hype this gets, it doesn't hold a candle to the firkin of Big Hugs at DOTLA a couple years ago with Dark Matter coffee, toasted coconut, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and toasted oak.

Absolutely tremendous. Had a draft pour at the taproom. Coconut BA stout with a terrific medium to thick body to carry the semi sweet blend of coconut, cacao and (on the back end) the coffee notes. Smells fantastic straight off the bat and the mix of flavors melds well. A top notch beer that I will seek out at the next release.

Pour at the Extreme Beer Fest 2017. This was a bit of a sleeper for me at the festival. Really well done and better than some of the super hyped stouts that produced long lines at EBF. My first dark beer from Half Acre and it is a winner.

On tap at EBF multiple times.

This one pours a pretty nice looking dark black, with a small head and no lacing.

Smells like intense roast, creamy and sweet coconut, sweet and fruity coffee, and a hint of booze.

I definitely need to get a bottle of this one to appreciate it further. The flavors all meld together extremely well. There's a good amount of oak for sure, and subtle bourbon, with the roasted malt and the roasted coffee all weaving together well. I would definitely wish for more coconut, as I love coconut, but it's definitely there and adds to things nicely.

This is medium bodied, pretty thick, but not absurdly so, with a normal level of carbonation for the style.

Half Acre knocked it out of the park with this one. Excellent stuff here.
