L: Black, not too thick, barely any head, just a little fizz
S: pleasant, mostly coffee/chocolate with a hint of bourbon, but not very strong smelling
T: very nice, again coffee/chocolate and bourbony oak and brown sugar. Not a complex beer, but the flavor it does have is very good. The bourbon is there, but there is no burn.
F: the best part about this beer. It goes down incredibly easy for a big BBA stout. Not very thick, which sometimes can be a flaw, but here I think it just makes it more drinkable.
O: pretty good beer. Not as strong as some BBA stouts, but very pleasant to drink. Tasty and very drinkable. I didn't love regular Big Hugs, so I'm surprised that I liked this one so much. I'll be buying some next year.

1/8/18: 22 Oz Bottle purchased 12/3 on release day, 12% ABV Barrel Aged Big Hugs with Coffee, multiple pours into a 12 oz snifter. Let this sit for 15 minutes before drinking. Pitch black pour, darker brown lacing. Very strong bourbon aroma, chocolate and coffee also in the mix. Bourbon predominate taste, coffee light. Strong beer, nice kick. Very thin texture, somewhat surprising, watery and smooth going down. Overall very good offering.

On draft in mini-snifter at Art of Beer in Highwood, IL.

Appearance is deep-dark brown with little foam head upon pour. Foam continued to be present on edge of glass as beer was drank. Surprisingly not much on the nose. Did not get much barrel and only faint amount of coffee. Quite similar to regular Big Hugs. Taste had coffee and some chocolate, and very small amount of barrel presence. End was smooth but quite thin for a 12% abv BA IS.

Overall, not a bad BA IS but I did expect more. Would get on draft again but would not seek out or trade for.

On tap at BeerMongers the other day.

The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's no doubt whatsoever that this beer has been aged in bourbon barrels. The bourbon aroma is huge and completely drowns out pretty much everything else in the aroma profile. However, I am picking up some noticeable dark chocolate, light vanilla and coffee as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, but I'd like a bit more of the base beer flavor. There's something a bit lacking on the mid palate, and the mouthfeel was a tad thin (surprising in a 12% abv. beer). Once again, there's certainly plenty of bourbon on the palate, along with some pleasant flavors of dark chocolate, light vanilla and some coffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied otherwise, with a fairly long finish. Alcohol is fairly well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there a bit.

A nice enough beer, but certainly not in the top echelon of BA impy stouts I've had over the years. It actually reminds me very much of the BA impy stout I had a few months back from Everybody's Brewing.

Shiny black with a tan ring.

On the nose I'm actually getting piney hops or is that a result of the barrel?...with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and woody bourbon.

Hot and bitter, flavor is bourbon and mocha.

Pours very dark with no light passing through, has a small light colored head that goes away quickly. You can instantly smell the heaven hill barrels. Lots of coffee as well. Can taste very sweet coffee.
