Notes: A seasonal stepping stone from Crocus DIPA and spring’s ability to push decay into new life, Burl brings Fall and everyone’s interest in gathering warmth. A combination of two transformative yeast strains and an art piece double dry hop featuring Simcoe, Mosaic Cryo, Citra, and 2019 Nelson places Burl into the soft core ~ big and pungent with Half Acre's bitterness and drinkability.

Opaque orange juice/ chicken stalk/ cardboard with an off-white froth. Little retention and lace.

Alcoholic, indistinguishable blended fruit, and dirty pine needles aromas.

Passion fruit, mango, a dab of vanilla and orange pull off a creamsicle flavor, and a touch of pine to finish it off.

Creamy feel, medium carb, high alcohol warmth. Balanced favoring bitter.

Not typical to Half Acre stylistically, but a decent juice beer overall.

Huge thanks to Joe! Cheers.

Fully hazed out, the color of peach juice, with a finger of head on top. Lemongrass, white peach, grapefruit, and a hint of blueberry--very fruity up front, transitioning to more bitterness by the mid-palate. Very soft and fluffy texture.

Served in a teku glass from the can.

Appearance: Hazy Gold with a medium to full bubbles creating a white head rising roughly half of one finger's length. Light sediments on the body hover the bottom of the glass.

Smell: Grapefruit juice with hints of malt.

Taste: Sweet malt with complex grapefruit and dose of floral feel which is quite so smooth.

Mouth: Sticky but with a dry feel and a soft carbonation. Incredibly appetizing.

Overall: Good brew, I haven't had much from half acre but the few that I did has delivered. Always in a glass...salud!

This is a NE IPA. As such I would rate it a lot higher, as it woukd be one of the better ones. It definitely has a bitterness to it and no chalky taste/feel. Still a very creamy body.

Pours an opaque rich golden color with a finger of head. The nose has notes of over-ripened fruit. The flavor follows the nose with a nice combination of juice and hops. The body is burl-y.

16 oz can poured into a pub-style pint.

Extra hazy gold. Big foamy white head. Moderate carbonation. Very cool label illustration.

Passion fruit, blueberry, peach, dank, wintergreen, mango, and candy sugar. Very aromatic.

Passion fruit, blueberry pulp, peach juice, and mango. Dank and wintergreen. Light candy sugar maltiness.

Medium bodied, smooth, oily, and slightly bitter.

It's incredibly easy drinking at 8.5%. Prost!

16oz can, date stamped 09/23/19. Hazy apricot colored DDHDIPA with a frothy ivory cololored head that holds excellent retention. Citrus and pineapple aroma with light caramel malt. Hop forward flavors with loads of tropical pineapple, mango, orange, and papaya; light caramel and honey notes add sweetness and balance. Full creamy body, hops make it a bit resinous, alcohol is warming, and bitterness is modest overall. Half Acre does hops so well - so good as expected.

This gorgeous hazy beer pours a brilliant golden color with a creamy pearl white head. Pop the top on the pint can and you know you’re getting into a Citra-Mosaic hop bomb because dank hop aromas literally leap from the can - ripe oranges, pineapple, and that “on-the-verge-of-garlic-and-onions” aroma that signifies the best Citra-Mosaic beers, IMHO.

The taste has the aroma bases covered in spades, and that garlic/onion flavor sneaks up, only to be subdued by the orange and pineapple flavors. The mouthfeel is commensurate with a DIPA, with nothing watery in this beer. It has a bite, and just the slightest hint of a boozy finish, which is to be expected in an 8.5% beer.

Half Acre has been a favorite of mine since I tried Daisy Cutter the first time, and they continue to crank out fantastic beers. This is another example of their brewing prowess.

Pours a beautiful apricot color with a lasting tight bubbly head. Well carbonated and murky. Beautiful beer.

Huge amounts of citrus and mango. Resinous. Lightly dank. Citra on full display. Some light pine aroma as well. Great nose.

Flavor is apricot, ripe orange, balanced with a biting hop bitterness. Alcohol is well masked.

Very smooth, medium bodied beer. Drinks very easily for its size.

The nose is certainly spring/summer, the flavors giving way to the bitter hops and smooth feel is fall. I think the description they gave is fairly accurate. The taste doesn’t match the noses intensity, but overall this does well. Great beer here.

Good stuff Maynard. Deep Space taken to another level. Dank, malty, fruity, tinge of honey, resiny, so well balanced. Well done. I'll be picking up some more.

Finally, a non-Marz city beer connects with an NEIPA. Suburban brewers seem to be able to make these in their sleep, but until now (Marz aside) the city's best entries have been in the budget category (Son of Juice, Le Jus) or hope-you-like-oats (Pipeworks). Burl earns Half Acre its fourth Chicago star. If they continue to make and sell this at a price point commensurate with Hop Butcher, Mikerphone, Noon Whistle, Hubbards, etc., I will continue to buy it.

Pretty cloudy orange color with a decent off white head. Glass lacing is excellent.

Mango, papaya, pineapple, grape musk, faint grapefruit and mint.

Taste mimics the nose. Semi-sweet with a nice medium bitter finish. Quite juicy with a decently dry finish.

Mouthfeel is medium and almost creamy.

Really well constructed and dangerously crushable. Grab it while you can.
