Canned 1/13/20; drank 5/24/20 @ Hannah's.

Midnight black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big dark tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.

Vanilla, mild pepper heat, cream & chocolate sauce notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Chocolate syrup, mild pepper heat & caramel flavors up front; cinnamon bite & booze heat notes on the finish.

Robust as hell, but a bit over-the-top. A few ounces is plenty.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 1/13/20, had 2/21/20.

Pours a thick looking dark brown, opaque, with a short head and light specks of lacing. Aromas of cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, malt, some oak, light bourbon. Smells terrific. The bourbon takes the lead in the flavor, then cinnamon, vanilla, malt, chocolate, coconut, some oak. Tastes as terrific as it smells. Smooth, an excellent full body with a thick feel, well carbonated.

Where does all that great coconut come from? The cinnamon is expertly added, the barrels are tempered but have a solid impact. The aromas and flavors are focused and delicious. Really enjoyable.

16oz can, dated 01.12.2020, poured into a 14oz snifter glass.

The beer pours a thick, viscous jet black color, sludge as it creeps out of the can and slowly fills the glass with a thick, foamy khaki head that rises about two fingers tall with excellent retention and wonderful striations of sticky lacing. The aroma is pleasant, hearty cocoa and fudgey chocolate, spicy cinnamon, warm bourbon, lightly charred oak and a nice roasted quality, a bit of vanilla and some stone fruits. The flavors are delicious, tons of chocolate, super fudge forward, thick and luscious milk chocolate but with a bit of bittersweet character. The barrel character really shines, light heat, mild char with the oakiness and a lovely vanilla and toasted coconut character bring out the cinnamon layers so well while there is a bit of fusel alcohol and stone fruits at the finish. The mouthfeel is incredible, so thick and heavy, incredibly smooth and creamy that coats very well and finishes with a bit of dryness from the cinnamon and heat from the barrel.

Verdict: A stunning stout from Half Acre. An incredible barrel aged stout that is firing on all cylinders. The vanilla character is really well layered while the cinnamon shines a bit more but that keeps things from getting too rich and sweet as the cinnamons tends to be more of a spicy and dry element that harmonizes this beer. Excellent stuff.

Good lord this beer. I would have to say that this is the most incredible beer I have ever had. Half Acre has been nailing it with big beers and they just topped them selves again. Buffalo Trace barrel aged with Madagascar vanilla and cinnamon! It’s a meal. It’s a sipper. It’s not for the faint of heart. 14% abv in 16oz cans and comes in a pack of 2. Not cheap but go for it, you deserve it!
