16 ounce can into snifter, canned on 11/20/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, light smoke/char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic coffee imperial stout. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Amazingly rich malts and moderate fruity/nutty coffee complexity; with solid earthy hops against sweetness, and mild fruity yeast. Was expecting a bit more coffee intensity, but there is an adequate amount. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected.

Nothing special coming from this bomber, just a good stout to share with friends over a football game.

Simple, a bit thin, but drinkable and sweet on the palate.

Artwork on the label was the highlight.

I'm updating my rating below after letting the beer sit for several weeks. The carbonation seems to have died down, which improved the taste and feel bigly. The carbonation on my first one was so high it was affecting the flavor and making the beer taste lager-like. Not a problem this time. Also, less carbonation helped turn the mouthfeel from "thin" to "drinkable". I enjoyed this one.

L: jet black with a fizzy tan head
S: not very strong, a little bit of coffee aroma
T: VERY thin for a stout with this high of an ABV. The coffee is the strongest flavor, and the coffee isn't even that strong. There really isn't much else going on, I get a little bit of a grainy flavor, almost like a lager, and maybe a little bit of chocolate, but really lacking complexity and strength. Almost tastes more like a black lager than a stout.
F: thin feel and high carbonation for a RIS. It's easy to drink for a beer this strong, and it hides the alcohol well.
O: very disappointing. I was really hoping for more flavor after the hype this beer gets. It's not terrible, but I can't see how anyone would wait in line to get this. Plenty of better stouts can be found on the shelves of any good liquor store year round.

Updated for 2018 version: This year's is very different from last year's. Still a very drinkable coffee stout for its ABV, but this year's has a LOT more coffee flavor and is significantly better IMO. The vanilla is almost undetectable in the Vanilla variant because the coffee is so strong. I like it.

Thanks to boothbeer for opening this one up. Poured from a 22 oz. bomber and split four ways. Really love the artwork on this bottle.

A- Pours a dark, coffee bean, brown color. Produced two fingers width of tan head. Distinct lacing is left on the sides of the glass. Good head retention.

S- Chocolate, roasted malts with a considerable amount of espresso. Rich and potent.

T- Taste is dominated by espresso and roasted malts. The chocolate adds just enough to balance out the taste. Finishes with a bit of dark fruit and a tremendous amount of sweetness. Slight bitterness in there as well.

M- Creamy feel, but definitely on the lighter side for this style.

D- Very drinkable, especially since this is close to 10% abv. The sweetness did wear on me after a while, but it was nowhere near overdone.

Overall, this was quite a surprise. If you see this one on the shelves, pick some up.

*transferred from old notes - 12/30/2013*
22oz bomber poured into a snifter. The coffee-forward nature of this one comes through immediately. A blend of fresh ground and fresh roasted coffee beans burst through. This is accompanied by an undertone of dark cherry and maybe some melon (cantaloupe?). A bit of caramel aroma peaks through as well as the hint of alcohol. It’s a deep, rich red-brown, nearly opaque pour with a milky brown head. Initially it appears that this one’ll have nice head retention, but it slowly retreats to a thin, wispy layer leaving very trace amounts of lacing along the glass. Medium-heavy sweet malty flavoring deriving from dark fruits and milk chocolate hit the tongue first, but quickly give way to a mellow, but very much present, coffee bitterness. Creamy texture, medium body, aided by above average carbonation in the mouth makes this a dangerously smooth beer - especially to an experienced coffee addict!.It does get slightly sticky near the end of the bottle and finishes with a decent alcohol kick - although it’s fairly mellow, not really offensive by any means - which provides a nice warming quality to the swallow. This fades to a mild roasted coffee aftertaste with some spiciness to it (I’m thinking licorice / anise), but it’s a very mild and light aftertaste at that

22oz bottle poured into my Half Acre pint glass...

Pours pretty much black, maybe a little light penetrates the edges...a thick three finger dark tan head forms and sticks around for a while...

Some dark roasted malts in the nose, toffee and caramel as well. A bit of a coffee bean aroma and a bit of bitter dark chocolate...

Taste pretty much follows the nose, bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitter coffee and a bit of a hop bite in the fnish...

Thin mouthfeel for an Imperial Stout, silky and smooth, medium bodied and nicely carbonated...

Pretty good beer from Half Acre, mouthfeel left a little to be desired, just drinks a little too thin for what it is. Definitely something I'll be drinking again though...

16oz can into a pint glass. Canned 11/16/17, so 14 months old.

Jet black body with a small tan head which quickly fizzes out to a ring. no lacing.

Only very faint coffee notes.

Quite tasty though. Slightly sweet, smooth coffee taste, stronger than expected after the nose. nice slow burn from the abv.

Mouth is around medium, but comes off thinner than expected. Finish is a slow coffee burn.

Overall, it's a tasty enough beer. perhaps it's an age issue, but it's a little light in most of the categories, no head, light aroma, thinner mouth.
