Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Double Daisy Cutter is a monster version of the original Daisy Cutter Pale Ale. A heftier grain bill amps up the weight and double dry hopping insures there's enough hops to recede your gums.

Pours a hazy goldenrod color. Just how a DIPA should look. Head stands about a half inch after the pour and receded to a film with rocky patches of bubbles. Head is off white in color and there is lots of visible rising carbonation. Smell is of orange and grapefruit and orange, I also get a bit of pine and some grassiness. This must be pretty fresh. The taste doesn't come through as hoppy as I expected after smelling this, though I guess this is labels as a double pale not a DIPA. The taste starts with bits of grain, and a mild sweetness, then I get some orange and an off flavor I can't name, but is displeasing to me. The finish has a nice bitterness. Mouthfeel is where it should be, light and fun. Overall this is a good beer, but that odd flavor in the middle of the taste is bugging me, not sure whats up with that.

Had a 5 oz pour at a bar.

Good brew. Appearance is nice golden and super clear. Nose is decent, but doesn't knock you over (like a fresh Zombie Dust or Sure Bet might). Flavor wasn't as strong as it has been in the past (this was 2016). Tasted almost more syrupy than an DIPA/Pale should - or what I would prefer.

This is the best double pale ale I have had. I will take this one over Double Fist all day and Double Fist is an excellent beer. Half Acre has nailed it with this one as they have with Galactic.

Smoothes out the rougher parts of Daisy Cutter...herbal, grassy, and large lemon notes. Very nice and the abv is in a nice spot. Thanks Tony!

Damn. Regular Daisy isn't my thing. But this was pretty spectacular.
Hop forward for a pale. Citrus tones on smell and palate. Nice full body. Excellent.

my bottle says 8% so I am wondering if the recipe has changed any since it was added in 2010?
excellent flavor. I love the pale ale style from the Midwest and this one is on target. definitely a bit stronger and worthy although I don't agree with the guy who said it tastes along the lines of Zombie Dust. has a slight twangy bitterness at the very end which lingers briefly but leaves a nice flavor on the tongue. very nice!

It pours a slightly cloudy golden orange with a nice pale straw head.

The tropical hops are just huge in this. This is a very fresh DIPA and the nose lets me knows that. The pineapple and grapefruit aroma from the Amarillo is just overflowing from the glass. I love me some tropical hops and this hits on all the notes.

The taste is just as bright and fresh as the smell. There is just this sticky resinous grapefruit hop taste that just coats your mouth. The bitterness isn't overly harsh but present. This beer reminds me a ton of fresh Hopslam with just a tiny addition of a malt sweetness at the end. it's almost everything I'm looking for in a DIPA.

The carbonation level is great and pairs nicely with a creamy silky mouthfeel. An alcohol taste is just starting to be present which is a ding on the drinkability since many other DIPA's of this gravity and higher have hidden alcohol better, besides that I think I will be finding myself craving a beer like this during the hot summer days.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #75 (April 2013):

As described by Half Acre: “Double Daisy Cutter is a monster version of the original Daisy Cutter Pale Ale.” Or rather, this is what happens when you let a West Coast-style Pale Ale run amok in Chicago. Bigger? Better? Who cares! This dank, dry and deceptively drinkable monster is one hell of a Double IPA that’ll make even the most critical of hopheads quiver with delight.

STYLE: Double IPA
ABV: 8.5%

LOOK: Slightly hazy amber with a creamy, white, clingy head and lacing

SMELL: Dank, resiny, herbal, floral; fresh pale malt grains

TASTE: Silky smooth, creamy carbonation, resiny, grapefruit, tangerines, zesty, sharp citric bitterness, grassy, bready sweet beneath, light vodka note, herbal lingers, chalky, aspirin, dry finish

Pours a deeply hazed orange with a creamy two fingers of bubbling white foam on top. Good active carbonation. Aromas are dense with dank, resinous, grassy hops. Tropical citrus and a solid crisp malt backbone with a touch of caramel. Really great hop profile and aroma....Daisy Cutter kicked up a few notches.

First sip brings a wall of bright dank hops with a menagerie of grassy herbal tones and tropical / grapefruit flavors a well. Solid crisp, slightly bready malt backbone. Flows into a kick of bitterness that's still somewhat balanced with the malt sweetness. Lingering hops on the finish.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy...good carbonation and well attenuated. Almost too easy to drink...a darn good amped up version of Daisy Cutter. The regular in 16oz cans is still my new favorite session brew!

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours an orange-yellow color with a white head. I get a ton of fruit in the aroma, namely grapefruit and pineapple but there are some other tropical fruits present. I also get a little bit of bready malt in the aroma.

The flavor is just as good. I get a ton of grapefruit, pine and papaya. Very fruity and tropical smelling. There is a tad bit of biscuit malt in the aroma and the bitterness is low to medium. Very drinkable.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice overall.
