Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Double Daisy Cutter is a monster version of the original Daisy Cutter Pale Ale. A heftier grain bill amps up the weight and double dry hopping insures there's enough hops to recede your gums.

Pours a golden amber with near perfect one inch head that dissapates at moderate rate. Smell is a rich caramel malt followed swiftly with strong citrus hop aroma. Taste is a citrusy pine, with strong bitter front that mellows out with a slight malty sweetness. Not a lot going on body-wise but the distinct dry hopped flavors run the show. Very well balanced and seems to get better as it comes to room temperature. More of a "double pale ale" than DIPA in the sense that the flavors become less abrasive as you drink on. A very nice offering by Half Acre that I will seek out in the future.

Wanted to like this more--really enjoyed DC the last time I tried it... immediate tip-off was the relatively clear look - though it is slightly hazy. Way less funk on the nose than regular DC... too malty for me, though less than others of this category. I enjoyed this beer but I wouldn't get it again... prefer trillium, dinner, haze, Abner, etc...

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #75 (April 2013):

As described by Half Acre: “Double Daisy Cutter is a monster version of the original Daisy Cutter Pale Ale.” Or rather, this is what happens when you let a West Coast-style Pale Ale run amok in Chicago. Bigger? Better? Who cares! This dank, dry and deceptively drinkable monster is one hell of a Double IPA that’ll make even the most critical of hopheads quiver with delight.

STYLE: Double IPA
ABV: 8.5%
AVAILABILITY: Rotating

LOOK: Slightly hazy amber with a creamy, white, clingy head and lacing

SMELL: Dank, resiny, herbal, floral; fresh pale malt grains

TASTE: Silky smooth, creamy carbonation, resiny, grapefruit, tangerines, zesty, sharp citric bitterness, grassy, bready sweet beneath, light vodka note, herbal lingers, chalky, aspirin, dry finish
