Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Double Daisy Cutter is a monster version of the original Daisy Cutter Pale Ale. A heftier grain bill amps up the weight and double dry hopping insures there's enough hops to recede your gums.

Having had a good deal of Daisy Cutter over the years, I can say this tastes almost exactly like what you would imagine a double would taste like. That's good news. It's got that same grassy, floral aroma and taste, only intensified. The malt comes through more, though, and adds an undertone of sweetness. The mouthfeel is light and crisp for a double, which makes it an easy drinker. You can see why they call it a double pale ale. It's got more oomph than an IPA but doesn't quite make it to a DIPA. Splits the difference nicely.

Update (8/12/17): bought a 4-pack and think this is better than ever - in scent and taste much danker than before. Intense pine and grass with a sweet malt finish. This is a really good batch.

This is the best double pale ale I have had. I will take this one over Double Fist all day and Double Fist is an excellent beer. Half Acre has nailed it with this one as they have with Galactic.

Pours a crystal clear burnt orange color with a finger of an off-white head.

Aroma is full of huge hop notes rounded out by a sugary sweetness from the malt. The hops bring a load of orange. Get tangerine, orange marmalade, and candied orange peel. Also get some herbaceous dankness, grapefruit, pine, and light grass. The juicy orange really sticks out.

Taste starts with candied orange, tangerine, and dankness with a little punch of a piney bitterness. Mid-palate brings the same qualities minus the bitterness, as well as a grapefruit, grassiness, and a hint of juicy pineapple. Really juicy at this point. The finish dries out the beer nicely and brings with it a pine resin and grapefruit peel bitterness layered on top of more candied orange, grass, and dank. Also get some alcohol notes on the finish.

Great mouthfeel, which is on par with Half Acre's other brews. Medium body. Smooth carbonation and creamy. Finish is oily and sticky.

The Galactic version of this seems to be the favorite, but this is still one damn good double pale ale. The citrus, pine, grass, and dank all work well together and the sugary malt backbone makes this really juicy. Add it to the list of killer hoppy stuff from these guys.
