Notes / Commercial Description:
If you’re anything like me, there were certain days you’d look forward to every month when the school hot-lunch calendar was released. Days that stood head and shoulders above the rest. The days when your absolute favorite cafeteria item was being served. Whether your food of choice be chicken fingers, tacos, pizza, french toast sticks, cheeseburgers, or country fried steak, those days were the best of all the days. The days when you could feel the electricity in the air as the seconds passed before the lunch bell would ring. With those memories in mind, we hope to elicit the same feeling of excitement with our newest brew: Taco Day. Taco Day is a 6.7% strong pale ale of the single hop varietal. We used an experimental hop from the Pacific Northwest. This beer has a subtle, floral taste with notes of berries in the aroma.

Too thin, hops do not shine through. Below average and for these guys, who make extraordinary stuff, that's a major disappointment.

Bottle of beer. I’m kind of torn by this one. My first impression was the smell, which I really didn’t care for. Strong dank smell. Kind of skunky, maybe comparable to ditch weed. However, I did enjoy the taste. Nice bitter dry flavor. I’m going to say this beer was OK.

32oz growler from Half Acre. Served in a Hill Farmstead tulip.

A - White foam settles to a thin cap, leaving behind splotchy lacework. Lightly hazed golden body.

S - The aroma is initially quite grassy, floral, and earthy, with a sharp, almost vegetal, note. There's some light citrus notes in the periphery but this is a somewhat atypical hop. Malt character is in the background as well, with a bit of icing and doughy bread.

T - I like the taste a bit more, as the vegetal note has largely subsided. A nice balance of sweet malts and grassy, earthy hop flavors with perhaps a touch of tropical fruits for good measure. Bitterness is fairly tame.

M - Smooth, medium body, with a crisp and slightly dry finish. Pleasant moderate carbonation level and no obvious alcohol.

D - Very easy to drink, and this experimental hop is certainly very distinct. I'm not sure if it's the type of hop that can support a beer on its own, but it might be a nice secondary addition in the future. Not something I'd rush out to have again, but a nice crisp pale ale that goes well with tacos.
