We welcome the cold and greet these holiday-rich days with Quakerbridge Barley Wine. An incarnation of a Half Acre favorite, Marty Stouffer’s Wild America Barley Wine, this weighty beer is a choose-your-own-adventure experience. Freshly plugged, this beer is a hop guster to bring your holiday retreat to its knees, but time allows this brew to round and settle into an ever maltier bomb of balance. Whether your mug is beside a Thanksgiving gobbler or a holiday ham, let our bottled elixir join you and your family on its collision course of celebration. So, pull a cork and belly up to home – this hulk of a holiday hazer will settle any family retreat into a warming submission hold of mirth.

2012 Quakerbridge, a bottle gifted by one of the co-owners of HA (thanks Maurizio!) back in 2013. Opened 6.27.20 and shared with wife and a friend who was in Chicago in 2013 as well with whom I taught for the semester.
L - Gorgeous mahogany brown, a little head left, good thick lacing as this went down.
S - Admittedly lost a LOT of the brown/fig fruit one might expect from this, but still aromas of ripe brown fruit, molasses, and a ton of honey on the nose.
T - So glad it survived, admittedly again with more tobacco, leather, honey, aged fig than anything else. Amazed it held up. Wow.
F - Great all the way to the bottom of the bottle, lots of good ol' fashioned gunky bits and stuff at the bottom .Hell yeah, don't filter it out.
O - A solid, non barrel aged barleywine, will have to return to HA some day to try it fresh on tap or at least fresh from the bottle.

From old, undated notes. Had this on draft.
Bright orange rust.
Minimal white head; nice lace.
Bright orange citrus nose; hints of caramel.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Light grain, honey & mild caramel flavors; slight booze heat on the finish.
Easy to drink & enjoy.

Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a 22 fl oz bottle on April 13, 2019. An incarnation of a Half Acre favorite, Marty Stouffer’s Wild America barley wine. Malty and boozy.

22 oz. bomber, snifter
A – Medium to dark amber, getting into copper, with very high clarity. A quarter-inch of light tan, large-bubbled foam rises and then ebbs quickly. Pours somewhat thin.
S – Resin and hop oil, sweet toffee and liquid caramel. A bit of wood and maybe some pine, but just a ton of syrupy sweetness takes over on the nose. Some apple and pear notes, perhaps alcohol esters, on the finish.
T – Apples and pears, some light pine, and red raisins, along with caramel and brown sugar. Sweet up front but a ton of hop bitterness that strengthens in the middle and on the finish.
M – Moderate-low carbonation with only a medium body, not particularly rich or heavy. A lot of sweet malt up front but bitterness is big, and lasts long into the finish. Aftertaste borders on unpleasant.
O – Overall pretty disappointing, though I’m hoping it will mellow out with some age in the bottle.
