Dark body, reddish orange glint in the meniscus of the glass, steady crown of unbroken lace around the edges. Soft veil of skim across the top, long lasting.

Chocolatey sweet aroma, some light dried fruit and ashy roast malt.

Bitter dry roast, bakers chocolate, lightly ashy in the finish. Extremely supple and smooth, full bodied with a long lasting bitter chocolate aftertaste, and some light coffee and roast malt. Pretty seamless, glad I got a chance to try this, hopefully it enters the regular rotation in the cooler months.

Makes me want to throw on some heavy music and tackle a growler while the snow piles up outside... Next year!

Had this both from growler and on-tap at Half Acre's taproom. Draft was a tad better.

A - Light tan foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and a few specks of lace. Very dark brown body.

S - Sweet and lightly fruity in true Baltic Porter fashion. Notes of smoke, roasted malts, dark breads, and cocoa powder fill things out. A bit charry and carbonic, but only slightly.

T - The taste is similar, but with more emphasis on the roast, char, and semi-sweet chocolate, with less of the fruitiness and dark bread flavors. Gets increasingly sweet as it warms up and thankfully avoids the astringency I get from a lot of Half Acre's dark beers.

M - Medium body, chewy and smooth texture, with lower carbonation, and perhaps a hint of alcohol warmth. Spot on for the style.

D - Solid beer that I enjoyed a fair bit - definitely one of Half Acre's best dark offerings in my humble opinion. The draft sample had a bit more chocolate and a bit less ash, so I'm rating based on that sample. I usually grab a 5oz of this every time I'm in the Tap Room - hopefully they make it again.

Poured from a 32oz howler into a St. Bernardus goblet.

A: Pours jet-black with the slightest suggestion of cola-brown at the edges. 1/2 a finger of bubbly, khaki colored foam spreads out on top briefly before melting away. Lace was drooping, ropey, and sparse.

S: Fresh pine needles and hearty malt roast. Hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and brown sugar.

T: See above. A nice tussle between the piney hops and blackened malt.

M: Quite prickly and astringent. Dry ashy finish sticks to everything before leaving my tongue suprisingly clean and refreshed.

O: This was a nice surprise for a winter beer in Chicago. Dark and foreboding yet suprisingly light on its' feet. Another HA beer worthy of making a return appearance.
