Beer Hates AstronautsBeer Hates Astronauts
Notes: Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it's called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that's what we're calling it. And we're calling it that because it's the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne's attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

Beer Hates Astronauts will be set free from its containment unit here at the brewery on Friday, August 30. It is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

Enjoyed one of these last night thanks to my man totalbangover, who threw this bomber in as an extra...and what an extra it was! He was raving about this beer as all he drank while at the HA taproom and I can see/taste why.
Bomber poured into a Deschutes snifter. Quarter to half inch of nice white head and very fragrant! Sweet citrus and hoppy!
First sip was excellent and flavor was just as fine as the aroma...citrus ad the perfect amount of hoppiness.
As the level in my glass lowered, everything about this sweet nectar stayed the same...flavorful and sweet to the nose and good to the last drop!
Really a very enjoyable beer and given the limited quantities (this was procured by my buddy as from the HA employee stash) and how fun it was to drink, I'm very impressed!

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. About 3 weeks old. Pours a slightly cloudy darker golden copper body, one finger white head, good retention, splotchy lacing. Smell is bright, freshly squeezed tropical fruit and grapefruit. Big wafts of tropical fruit align nicely with a bit of floral/herbal resin, light caramel. Flavour doesn't really bring that big tropical fruit across, though. It is more of a balanced grapefruit and light caramel flavour, a bit of resinous, slightly dank bitterness on the backend. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, slightly dry, with a deliciously mildly bitter resin finish. Smell is almost what I want from all IPAs, although it didn't quite deliver on the palate. Very good IPA with a big tropical aroma.

22 oz. bottle, no bottled on date that i can see. Released mid-2016. Interesting label art on this one. This beer sold out almost instantly at my local bottle shop (i managed to get the last bottle), so let's see what all the hype is about.

Poured into a Maudite snifter glass.

A - Pours a nice murky golden with lots of fine sediment particulate visible when you look for it. One finger of good soapy frothy white head that stays awhile and leaves nice scattered fluffy strands of lacing. Apt carbonation, with some smalls bubbles lazily floating topside. Looks very nice.

S - Aroma is good: strong fresh fruity floral hop presence. Notes of juicy fruits (berries, mango, tangerines, grapefruit, papaya, subtle notes of piney dankness. Very bright & floral, with some good fresh, earthy, herbal elements. Very pungent, with slight horseradish-esque spiciness.

T - Taste is the same: fresh, floral, fruity, juicy - notes of mango, papaya, grapefruit, orange, citrus rind, slight notes of piney / herbal dankness. Very nice fresh pungent Mosaic hop presence. Feels like pale or crystal malt, very light, not nutty or particularly malty. The hops really shine here.

M - Feel is very smooth, crisp, clean, juicy & fruity. Very nice levels of hop bitterness / resins clinging to the palate. Nicely carbonated stuff; very easy drinking for the moderate 7.00% abv. (though it wouldn't hurt amping the abv up a tad, in my opinion).

Overall, a nice fresh fruity floral IPA, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Particularly good when you are able to catch stuff like this fresh, so i can definitely see the appeal. Maybe as good, but definitely not better than, some of the fresh Pipeworks DIPA's that are put out. Still, one of the better beers I've had from Half Acre, worth seeking out if you are a fan.

Great bitterness and sweetness blend and a nice citrus and fruity bite from the Citra hop make this beer amazing
