Notes / Commercial Description:
Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it's called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that's what we're calling it. And we're calling it that because it's the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne's attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

Beer Hates Astronauts will be set free from its containment unit here at the brewery on Friday, August 30. It is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

Wow...this beer had me with my first smell. Lots of tropical fruit and pine. The look is a little hazy with a nice head. The taste follows the smell with just a little bit of bitterness at the end. Nice medium mouth feel. Overall this is an excellent beer and very well done by Half Acre.

Look is a semi transparent golden apricot hue with off white head.

Smell is dank tropical fruit.

Taste is tropical fruit followed by the typical Half Acre bitterness.

Feel is smooth and slick.

Overall a very nice ipa as long as you don't mind some bitterness on the back end. Definately better than Double Galactic.

The crack of the can dated 5/22/17 revealed such a pleasing aroma, I immediately began to salivate. Then I tasted it...mic drop. It's great. Tropical, citrus and tiny pine bitterness delight the palate and nose. Drink it if you can (pun intended). Cheers!

16oz can dated "TO THE MOON 5/22/17"

Pours a slightly hazy medium golden color. Nice 1.5 finger head. Some great multi-level lacing on the glass.

Aroma is peaches, mango, banana, citrus, malts, pine. Juicy yet malty.

Taste follows the nose a bit with some fruit. But maltier than expected. Not overly bitter. Very well balanced.

Feel is medium-heavy for the style. Well carbonated, smooth finish. Refreshing.

Overall, a very tasty IPA. Loving the Citra hops mixed with Vienna malts. They did a great job of balancing the bitter and crisp with the sweet and smooth.

BHA 2017 has a great hops smell, cloudy golden look and a nice hoppy taste that doesn't have as bitter of a finish you might expect.

Canned June 2014; drank 6/18/14 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from the can into a glass.

A murky bright orange hue.

HUGE off-white head; frothy lace.

Incredibly fragrant orange citrus nose with hints of fresh marijuana.

Medium mouthfeel.

The flavor is a citrus orgy; orange & grapefruit burst from the first drop. A pine sharpness is present for balance, but isn't overbearing. Pretty damn perfect.

On tap: poured into a chalice, color is light orange/opaque gold; head is off white wig fine bubbles.

Aroma is clean malt, then light biscuit and bread quickly overtake by the hops, big, fresh and bitter.

Taste amplifies the aroma with a bready almost doughy character, then big bitter hops with citrus rind and lighter earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is crisp, not sweet and a nice lingering bitterness on the tongue.

Overall, great beer with funky bready presence and flavor and solid hop bitterness.
