Brewed by:
Rock Art Brewery
Vermont, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A light copper body low bitterness with good hop flavor. This is my impression of what the English troops may have been drinking when they occupied India. The pale ale they drank had mellowed considerably. The wooden casks had spent many months traveling on ships and long inland journeys to the troops, where they were then tapped and enjoyed.

Aroma is aromaless. Ok not quite, but close enough for government work....very vaugely hoppy. Dusty brown with a massive and fluffly white head that is very bubbly. Fore is lightly hoppy...lightly malty...lightly citric and heavily boring. Put some freaking ingredients in your beer please! At least it doesn’t taste bad...it just doesn’t taste. BMC, IPA is what this is.

A: It is a light amber color. clear with a pure white head that quickly dissipated

S: Standard Hop smell, with a little bit of barley bread thrown in

M: light carbonation, smooth or finished feel. It left the normal dry taste in the mouth.

T: The hoppiness comes through the beer and covers up just about everything else. It is a standard IPA with a strong hop after taste that follows the dryness in the mouth

O: It is not a stand out IPA, Normally would have expected more from Rock Art. Very disappointed

Light yellow-orange body with a modest finger of thin white head. Not much lacing to speak of. Pretty good to look at.

Smell is metallic and slightly skunked. Too bad...

Flavor is thin, bitter and acidic. This misses all of the good things about an IPA, in favor of the negative. No citrus or floral hop presence. No sweet malt. This has a distinct flavor of bitter aspirin. Not impressed, indeed.

Mouthfeel is very astringent and somewhat chalky. Thin and acidic.

Drinkability is moderate. On tap, in a pub, I would probably get used to the flavor weirdness and put down a few pints. Here, at home, I am glad that I have other, better, options.

This beer finished 10th out of 12 beers in our IPA blind taste test of New England and Mid-Atlantic IPA's. I remember trying some Rock Art beers at the 2002 Vermont Brew Fest, and nothing from Rock Art Brewery left an impression on us.

This beer poured very light yellow, almost white. I thought I was pouring a Bud Light. Not much head and lacing. The bold hops taste of an IPA was almost non-existent, which sounded off an alarm with my tastebuds. It had some fruitiness taste and some underlying malt, but I could not get past the blandness.

Everyone felt the same about this beer. It was a dud.

After hearing a lot of good things about this beer thought i would give it a try. And let me just say i was very unimpressed. I have never had a bottle beer that tasted like it came out of a can. Which it did, everyone who was drinking it tasted a distinct metal taste to the beer. No hop character at all which is most unusal for an IPA. Might try some of their other beers but will difnetly stay away from this one in the future.

Pours very clear, orangy yellow brew with a puffy white head. lots of bubbles. Metallic dry hop odor, smells slightly sour and citrusy too. Watery hop flavor. Metal that was in odor is also present in sort of a coppery form in the taste. Some raw yeast flavor and more malts than i expected. thin and a bit unbalanced. Much more like a mildly hoppy pale ale...i really think they came closer to an English IPA than an Amrican, but either way its not all that impressive.

This beer has the appearance of a hefeweizen: Cloudy and golden. The head is white with some okay lace.

Mild aromas with lower than expected hop smell. Slight sour cream smell. Low malt. Not to style on the profile.

This is a very dry IPA. The taste is grainy. The hop bitterness common to the style seems to be missing; this is all malt, but one dimensional. There are notes of dry apricot.

Clearly, this one missed the expectations of an IPA.

12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.

A: Dark amber body, cloudy with chunks of yeast (who knew a 12oz IPA would be bottle conditioned?), under a finger of soft, ultra-fine eggshell foam. Ok retention, sheets of delicate lace. She's got an ugly body, but damn if that wasn't some fine head. Let's say it evens out.

S: Pine resin, light citrus, and plenty of caramel. Pretty standard, but quite pleasant ... at first. As it warms, though, it takes on some unpleasant notes of wet dog, dirty grass, and harsh grapefruit. Not good.

T: Hmm. Bitter piney hops, cloying malt, and some rather unappetizing yeast chalkiness. Overly bitter, astringent finish. Not terrible, but definitely not a good IPA.

M: Medium body, with plenty of late-developing carbonation. Pretty solid.

O: Underwhelming. I'm very glad I got a single instead of a six-pack. Not recommended.

Appears a light gold with a small white cap and little lacing.
Smell is florally and soapy with light malt in the background.
Taste is light and soapy with nothing fantastic jumping out.
Mouthfeel is light, fizzy, and weak.
Drinkability...nothing special going on this this one.

Hazy golden appearance. Bubbly ivory white head. Retention and lacing are adequate. Aroma is very sprucy. A very light undelying of toasted malt aroma is perceived as well. The taste is big on the piney, sappy notes. A little citric and a little rind like as well. Not real big on the bitterness or lingering bitterness. Malt backbone is adequate at best. Mouthfeel is just a little on the flat side. Body about medium. Average at best IPA. I wouldn't buy this one again.

A: A very pale, clear, yellow/gold color with a faint, white “head” on the top. Looks like a pilsner or light lager to me..

S: Some slight pineapple comes to mind and maybe some slight citrus with some mildly sweet caramel malts.

T: Very bland. Has a weird LIGHT hoppiness to it with some bread notes and slight malts. I still get that pineapple, but very subtle and “off-like” with some apple. Maybe even a tad bit sour? Unlike any IPA I have had… In a boring sort of way. Bitterness is there, but very very slight. Ends some what dry with the taste lingering in the mouth.

M: Mouthfeel is alright. Medium to light carbonation with a medium body that goes down pretty clean and refreshing.

D: Drinkable? Very, only because of its nothingness. Very bland and stale and yet clean. Nothing very nasty or offensive, just very unlike the style and very unmemorable. I wouldn't pick this up again nor would I advise any body else to.
